Hi there, Kim, and all other listeners!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:03pm
WR:

Hi Kim, have been running errands all afternoon. Plenty greasy and just arrived home, in time to hear where you are going to take us.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:06pm
WR:

Oh, didn't know of Gina's brother passing. Thank you for the dedication.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:08pm
Kim Sorise:

Glad to have you both here today, Andrew and WR.
I know it's a bit different than what Matinee listeners are used to at this time.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:10pm
WR:

Lots of 'FMU listeners are omni-eared.

Hey DocJ - So glad to have you! Happy Saturday!
How is LailaJazz these days? Are her puppy days receding?

We gave up, have been giving her CBD in the evening (she was walking been 4 and 5:30, ready to play, go fire a walk). She's still got Eveready Bunny energy during the day, but we're getting a bit more sleep (thankfully).

Kim Sorise:

You need to do what works for sure. Lyric has just started to move into the adult dog age (she's 4). It's so nice not to get random zoomies, full body demands of play from a 65-70lb solid mass of dog. 🤣
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:29pm
doctorjazz:

↳ Kim Sorise @5:25
I likethe Zoomies-it's the early mornings, and her standing and barking at us, wanting something we can't figure out.

This is cool!

I like zoomies too - but outside. Not in the living room... she shakes the house.

Can we assume that the featured pianists were favorites of or in some way special to Jeremy?

WFMU has lost two Jeremy's in recent days. It's nice to have the freedom to pay tribute to both of them.

I just love the way John Hicks plays. This record is so great.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:54pm

↳ Dean @5:52
Actually Dean, I don't know because I never met Jeremy; He is Gina's brother. But as a student of Pullen and lover of Monk - I pulled some artists I felt fit between those bookends.
Thank you for being here, Dean.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:56pm
Kim Sorise:

I am sorry to hear of the loss of Jeremy adjacent. I hadn't heard.
  5:57pm
Dean:

He was a student of Pullen? Or you were? (Grammar can be difficult.)

My pleasure being here, and you know even the poignancy of loss can be an important attraction.

Oh! Jeremy Tepper, Laura Cantrell's spouse.

Saw Hicks a few timese back in the day, notably with Arthur Blythe in the In The Tradition band.

Dean:

Amazing. To have studied with Pullen.

When my wife and I were hunting for rentals in Berkeley about 15 years ago, we landed on a duplex near where we now live. The landlord was a young-ish guy who, it turns out, had attended college with my wife at a school with a strong music conservatory. We got to talking, and he informed us that he had studied with Richard Davis. Woulda been a cool landlord, but the space wouldn't have accommodated the record collection.

Right!!

Dang... I just love Richard Davis. Was super happy to find a copy of Dealin' when I was in Detroit this summer.
The records always need a space.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:03pm

I actually have another Davis LP pulled for today
  6:06pm

I don't have enough Davis, but I do have his record with Walt Dickerson.

Oh yes, Lyric Soul Smith Sorise - aka potato; aka house hippo - has much to say these days. She has become quite a talker as she ages. She and Derrick bicker quite often; it's great entertainment

Any Tapscott on deck? I've been picking up the Nimbus West issues lately, including a soon-to-appear 3LP set from Century City.

There was a time it was really hard to find any Tapscott (in the days when you HAD to go to the record store-the olden days...)
  6:30pm
Dean:

My favorite Tapscott is fast becoming the Arkestra shows in LA as they appear. I remember hanging out at the old Poo Bah in Pasadena, among the finest record stores, gazing at the solo Nimbus West albums. Almost bought one every time, but never did!
  6:30pm
Dean:

I have never once *had* to go to a record store. I always *want* to go to one.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:30pm
Kim Sorise:

↳ doctorjazz @6:28
True; his stuff was super hard to find until the reissue game got to him and thanks to that, I think everything I have is a reissue except my copy of The Call. I think I have maybe 6 Tapscott LPs.

Tapscott did at least two CDs on major labels, as I recall. They commanded great reviews in Cadence, for example.

Ah, yes, Giant Is Awakened (I grabbed the reissue vinyl), and "Dark Tree" (I first learned thanks to hat Hut).
