Guar is fairly tried and true. Just a matter of playing with the proportions until you get the one that acts as you want with your equipment.

The tricky thing with guar is the salts to solubilize it and then modifying the electrolytes until the bubbles behave.

I don't think PEG leads to any micro problem. It gets MORE soluble as it breaks down. Had some success with poly(vinyl alcohol) too -- basically glue.

salts to solubize it... i make an alcohol slurry ? ... electrolytes? i never have messed with salts. i do have hydroponic pH up and down juice. as for plastics, i dunno. i feel bad enough getting the detergent in the streams, etc... wow, glue you say? interesting.... what would that do to the grass?
