Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from August 2, 2024 Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Or...the "Droste Effect", of which this is sort of an ironic non-example...
  11:55am
Dean:

In fact, it is a good example, just like QO.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am

I guess, so. It's not the typical example of how the Droste Effect would be described. It makes no use of the image of the box on the box. It could be any box in the gif.

I suppose there are two effects here. One is the image of the box on the box. The other is the cupboard in the cupboard?

Jacques Tati soundtracks have great offerings for similar bed music.

I was treated splendidly by Parisians in 1984, when I visited to hear Les Arts Florissants. I missed a train to a performance in Bergamo, so I visited the LAF HQ in Paris. They took me to lunch and let me watch another ensemble, a trio doing medieval music. Lovely folks.

I feel ya, (Mr) Bill. No man is an island. (Which simply cannot be true. Every man is an island.)

Sure. And corporations are people, mostly men. Therefore, syllogistically, most corporations are islands.

I was telling someone the other day about a mishearing I read of long ago. "No man is an island" was received as "no mayonnaise in Ireland."

Speaking of the Clash. The last couple of songs have a very late-Clash/Big Audio Dynamite vibe. That's a good thing.

Loving these 30s selections.

Walter Becker could’ve had a Faces tribute band as a side gig.

with the aim of having the balance sheet be somewhat accurate, I am acknowledging that I have been listening to the whole program to this point except for those two songs when I just had to hop to another stream for the duration. I have checked and my listener agreement does not require me to to disclose which two songs.

I attended some Grateful Dead concerts '69' - '72. Only memories I have are from some flash backs I've experienced.

MHLee of the Sheena stream did an interesting Jerry Garcia program this morning: emphasizing the Jug Band music roots of Garcia. No Grateful Dead recordings. One track with Garcia playing with Grisman. All the rest are recordings of songs the GD or predecessor band Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions are documented to have performed.
