Looking forward to hearing some classic YARDBIRDS cuts here today! BECK, PAGE, CLAPTON and the other guys! My younger sister met the band in 1966 while at Fort Lauderdale Beach with her friends. A convertible pulled up, gave them a copy of "Havin' a Rave-up With the Yardbirds" and free tickets to their local concert there. When I came home to Florida from college in Philly that summer, I got to hear that full album for the first time. Astonishing stuff! I only knew of them from the film, "Blow Up," where they play, if I recall correctly, "Train Kept a'Rollin" in a teen nightclub scene

I tell ya, thumbing through these virtual scans of old Billboard and Variety magazines is so educational. A remarkable review of Dick Gregory's ascendant career is replete with racist trappings, and this: "Consensus is that, for the comparable stage of development, Gregory out-comets Bob Newhart, another Chi product."

I recall strolling the aisles at Tower Records in Buena Park for the umpteenth time, where I saw that first Jane's Addiction album. I wasn't interested in rock music at the time, but I'd heard of the local band, and I thought it curious that their first outing was a live recording. A few months later, same venue, and the store is playing the second album, Nothing's Shocking, which impressed me. So, I bought it, but I've yet to hear any other JA albums, including the first one.
