Jimm if you wrote a book, I'd buy it dude.
  6:02pm
Listener Robert:

The actor I used to joke about casting in every role was Alan Arkin.

Ken From Hyde Park:

Nothing against Jim the Poet, but I hear he's all thumbs.

Do you take writing commissions, Jim?

That's enough. Lets talk movies.

LA VOURDALAK is definitively one of the best this year! But I thought LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL was awful...

Shouda had a bigger piece of paper to write all this stuff down.

I think Brad Pitt was in some pretty awesome sci-fi movies, also Bruce Willis usually picks pretty good scripts. INCLUDING HUDSON HAWK!

Hi since I haven't seen any of the movies up for the Jimmy awards, I'll nominate a movie with the best title
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm

Not eligible for a Jimmy, but watched the Banshees of Inisherin the other night. Very dark but beautifully shot and acted.

Penguin adultery should be a category.
  6:10pm
Tom from Stirling:

Sigourney Weaver was nominated for best actress for Alien. That was a summer movie.

What people aren't talking about is how bad penguins smell.

Sam Rockwell in everything, please.

Crispin Glover in every movie he ever made because he has so much riz.

↳ RustyinBaltimore @6:13
Good choice. He's great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm
Count d'Al Dente:

Yes to Glover. I haven't seen any of the nominations/nominees, but for youngish current directors, it's Dito Montiel.

The movie, Five Corners, had a penguin. I think Turturro's character clubbed it.

Did not care for Longlegs (and I was really, really excited for it). Seemed like Perkins had a number of good images in mind and then he worked backwards to try and create a plot. Not that I *need* a plot but... it didn't cohere. Worked best when it leaned into comedy but it didn't do so until the last act and by that point I was already done.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
Folsom:

Is Jim going to have a red carpet next week?
Avatar 6:18pm
The Chief:

Have not seen Oddity yet (sadly missed it when it was in theaters). Late Night with the Devil was fun but felt like it was just on the cusp of greatness... reminded me of Ghostwatch.
Avatar 6:19pm
Wild Neil||Peace All:

Is Alien horror or sci-fi?
Avatar 6:19pm
The Chief:

Alien: Romulus was perfectly serviceable (if a bit anonymous)... wish it had an older, grizzled cast like the original instead of doing the Hollywood thing of stuffing it with Gen Z actors
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm
Howard & the Cats:

Colman Domingo and Jeffrey Wright seem to only be in good movies...
  6:20pm
Tom from Stirling:

↳ Wild Neil||Peace All @6:19
Alien: Romulus doing well at the box office. Deservedly so. Jimm didn't describe the movie very accurately.
Both.

I really hated the "shoutouts" to previous movies, that was distracting and cheapening. But overall, I thought it was fun. It was better than COVENANT. But not as good as PROMETHEUS...

You didn't like the easter eggs? They kinda explained all the previous movies.
The ending was a bit much. But still... overall a good edition to the Alien franchise.

From the POV of the other characters, "Ground Hog Day" was nothing special. Remember, they experience it only once -- or if they do experience it over and over, they don't remember.

For the question I’d say Willem Dafoe and Lea Seydoux. Both are always great, both are in like 5 or 6 movies a year, and both are good at picking interesting films.

Avatar 6:49pm

Cautiously optimistic about Beetlejuice Beetlejuice because they're using practical effects but Burton's track record over the past 20 years has been abysmal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm
Ike:

The original Beetlejuice holds up for me, but I'm very, VERY concerned about this sequel because two of the three writers are the morons who created Smallville and were the showrunners of that very dumb show. Real dunces. Not to mention Burton has really gone downhill lately.

Actually, every movie Michael Keaton is in is worthwhile.

↳ Ike @6:51
(Smallville has a lot of defenders but they are largely people who were children at the time, or who have no taste whatsoever. Those two writers also created a very strange, all-over-the-place mess of a show called Into the Badlands, an AMC post-apocalyptic kung-fu show with the most absurd premise imaginable: there are no more guns in future post-apocalyptic America. The guns are all just... gone.)
  6:54pm

Yeah, but Kurt Russel always kinda does the same thing.
