I haven't seen it, but its real name is The Boat That Rocked, reasonably clever title. Movie executives forced them to change it to Pirate Radio for the U.S. market because they thought The Boat That Rocked was too confusing for American dummies.

I went to a couple Dead shows in the 80's and honestly the parking lot scene was more interesting than the actual show. I am sure the Dead in the 60's and early 70's (and probably that legendary Cornell show) are pretty rad. Jerry was a phenomenally gifted guitarist, its just what he did with it in the 80's was awful. Regarding John Cale I could bet a really hard version of Magazines was a real banger LIVE.

haven't heard the music enough to have an opinion, honestly. BUT at one point I had a roommate who was a bit of a pharmacist in that parking lot scene whenever the tours came to MD.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate the Dead’s absolute expertise in sound technology and recording since day one in ‘65, acid tests, the touring, the dedication to playing out constantly, religiously, on good nights, bad nights. They can go from inspired transcendence to terrible within minutes. I appreciate that but I’m a super-fan.

Wow, haven't heard that name since then. I remember seeing him guest VJing on some VH-1 late night kind of New Age-y show (what was that called?) had his sticks, was playing on everything around him in the studio.
