Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Hi, Bronwyn and fellow AJH listeners. Easy listeners; that's a good one.

Monday mornin' feels so bad but Tonight!

Curious, Saturday and Sunday aren't referenced in that song. Maybe it all became a blur once Friday had arrived.

George Benson was a really great jazz guitarist who pretty much gave it up to become a pop performer. I often wonder what he might have done if he had remained in jazz.

Yeah, early Benson was straight ahead jazz, organ trios. But he followed Wes Montgomery's lead, playing for the pop audience, and making a living...

Hey Bronwyn, I'm curious, are you very multi-lingual? Do you understand the lyrics of many of these non-English songs you play?

For me, while I can appreciate the quality of the singing, the fact of lyrics I can't understand tends to make me frustrated. I so want to know what the song is about!
Avatar 8:23pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

I know some Spanish but other than that no. If a song isn't in English or Spanish I have no idea what they're singing about and just hope it isn't offensive lol

When I did an all Eastern European show when I was filling in earlier this year I didn't understand a single world all night and I'm guessing most of the listeners didn't either, great songs tho

As a Monty Python purist (having seen the original shows on PBS), I resisted the play. Then out-of-town friends came and made me go, and I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed it. Big sing-along of Bright Side of Life at the end.

Sonja Henie was an Olympic athlete who became a movie star. I think the attraction was that ice routines could be done with short skirts and were considered sexy. But I remember a time when she was the prototypical skater, and people would say things like, "Do you think you're Sonja Henie?" to skaters.

I'm somewhat an all things Python fan, I enjoyed the Spamalot show but enjoyed more the theatrical presentation (One Down, Five to Go) they did in 2013, even though I was watching a broadcast in a Cinema. When looking in Wikipedia to see the date of that, I am reminded that that show was triggered by the group having to pay 800,000 pounds to the producer of the movie, Holy Grail, for royalties owed due to Spamalot being a derivation of said movie.

Listener Gregory:

A bit of Wikipedia Henie research: "Henie is credited with being the first figure skater to use dance choreography, to adopt the short skirt in figure skating, and to wear white boots,[12] which deemphasized the heaviness of skates and produced a lighter and longer appearance of the skater's legs that was "a focal point for judges' and spectators' gaze"."

↳ Song: "There will never be another you" by "Chet Baker"
I was looking at Chet Baker recordings that the NYPL has and saw that recording has a waiting list. I requested one of his late albums that featured Paul Desmond, recorded shortly before Desmond died.
