So there might be some pop singers doing torch song type songs, but they might be regional, or have a very small fanbase so they don't get heard outside their scene.

I do have to mention Sharon Jones, though, she was a prison guard at a federal penitentiary, and made it late in life. Quite impressive. Loved seeing her live, and with guest appearance by Syl Johnson!

	5:12pm Arvo Zylo: Coco Rosie are another odd success story. Estranged Native American sisters reconvened to record an album in their bathroom, on answering machine messages, with children's toys and a piano, and got signed to a considerably large independent label based on an extremely rough demo.
	5:17pm Austin Rich: Seeing the Butthole Surfers as a young lad really broke my head open in a good way. I'd never seen anything that was so completely intense and confrontational as their stage show. I've seen crazier since then, but for a young lad... they were wild!
	5:19pm Austin Rich: "Don't Fuck Around With Love" is a classic tune! Hell yeah.
	5:27pm Mr Fab: must have seen the BH Surfers (as the LA Times used to call them) at least 5 times..? A multi-media mind-blower like nothing else. Their albums were also great, but really, in a very different kind of way. like Negativland in how they approach the stage and the studio from two different directions, instead of just trotting out the songs the way they sound on the albums.

But I realize that the kids who are having that experience are having it online, and toiling in terrestrial radio was never gonna reach the kids of today, the way old radio reached me. Besides: Sheena's has better style than most of the terrestrial stations I've been at.

	5:48pm Austin Rich: ↳ Mr Fab @5:45 We ran into that problem at KPSU. When I started on staff, there were LARGE gaps in the schedule, and I was astonished. When I took over as Programming Director, I kept trying to fill the schedule, but it was an uphill battle. I never quite got a full house, so to speak.
	5:50pm Arvo Zylo: ↳ Austin Rich @5:48 I left WLUW in 2014, and they had a high turnover rate, but WZRD went on strike and battled the university, got a union, and probably still has staff issues, but they at least survived some sort of corporate takeover, whereas with WLUW, the university took over and fired everybody in 2009, just so that they can broadcast basketball games or something. I'm not sure what it was about, but it was not as fun after that.

Massive talent pool, but died as no-one had the bandwidth for it to work properly so it died in less than a year. Not long after that discovered EastVillage Radio and listened to that until its death about 10 years later/ago

Loved seeing her live, and with guest appearance by Syl Johnson!

	5:12pm Arvo Zylo: Coco Rosie are another odd success story. Estranged Native American sisters reconvened to record an album in their bathroom, on answering machine messages, with children's toys and a piano, and got signed to a considerably large independent label based on an extremely rough demo.
	5:17pm Austin Rich: Seeing the Butthole Surfers as a young lad really broke my head open in a good way. I'd never seen anything that was so completely intense and confrontational as their stage show. I've seen crazier since then, but for a young lad... they were wild!

I'm not sure what it was about, but it was not as fun after that.
