This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

i'm guessing the pop/cartoon imagery came to th hippies from warhol, lichtenstein via politics of the situationists
Avatar 7:19pm
Flash Strap:

↳ tom tom the pipers son @7:18
certainly yes but crucially also from the comics themselves - those early 60s DC comics were so psychedelic to begin with
Avatar 7:19pm
tom tom the pipers son:

↳ tom tom the pipers son @7:18

Avatar 7:22pm
Flash Strap:

↳ tom tom the pipers son @7:21
'course then the underground comics scene developed too, got in a serious feedback loop with freak music
Avatar 7:23pm
Flash Strap:

this is definitely one of those cases where you could walk into the room mid-jam and think someone was playing Can, at least until the trumpet kicks in
Avatar 7:24pm
tom tom the pipers son:

↳ Flash Strap @7:22
yes, i'd say they developed out of the beats more than anyplace else
Avatar 7:26pm
tom tom the pipers son:

↳ Flash Strap @7:23
that you mention that makes me think that it might be nice to have heard beefheart playing clarinet(?) in the way he did with can...not suggesting a.i.
Avatar 7:28pm
Flash Strap:

↳ tom tom the pipers son @7:26
there's some stuff on Mirror Man sessions that always makes me think of that, they really stretch out
Avatar 7:30pm
tom tom the pipers son:

↳ tom tom the pipers son @7:24
i don't think it's a strong case but you could make the case that underground comics were more literary than visual
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm

i think that's case by case but often true & often not
Avatar 7:32pm

Avatar 7:42pm
tom tom the pipers son:

↳ Song: "Hold My Hand" by "The Rokes"
the fore grounding of the vocals in this probably the most psychedelic thing in this ....way way up front
Avatar 7:43pm
Flash Strap:

↳ PAULS @7:42
there's another version they did between the original Italian (Pianga Con Me) and Let's Live For Today: a very weird english lyric called "Passing Through Grey"

if i have nothing better to do and want to criticize psychedelic music, a lot of it, i'd say, is that it's invention can be pretty superficial, even for good psyche...it's just blues form...disintegrated, distorted...there's not really invention at the root
