I was quite young at the time and don’t know about Kent State except about the deaths that resulted. In the case of Altamont it was The Grateful Dead who hired their friends, the Hell’s Angels, to provide security. The event had been planned to take place in Golden Gate Park. The Rolling Stone’s press conference announcing the show caused them to lose the permit for a free show, forcing the organizers to find an alternate venue.
