The Radio Is Broken is a three-hour spelunk through the canyons and fissures of humanity's collective unconscious. It sounds as if a field recording of the Culture Industry were a sonic juggernaut barreling down a rickety track—except that tunnel ahead is just painted onto a sheer cliff wall. With occasional forays into what might pass for "normal" music. Prerequisite journey: Cratedigger's Lung

Back at my shitty 10-watt college radio station, I really *wanted* the censored version of this and couldn't find it. I almost got in trouble for playing the dirty version, if I remember correctly. But I had a terrible timeslot in 1993, so probably nobody was listening.

12” was my fave format for a while in the ‘90s. So much golden age hip-hop, early electronica, oddball novelty one offs that didn’t require a full album. it was like 60s garage rock in that sense.

Plus, 12 inches just had the best sound. And then all the instrumental and a cappella mixes inspired me to get into mashup and sound collages, and here I am. So, thank you 12 inch singles of the world!

Doug Kahn wasn't a super prolific cutup artist but he's written numerous books about Surrealist art and a great book which I own about WW2era collage artist John Heartfield, which I recommend.

i wrote a script for one when i was in 5th grade, a man-on-the-street interview to do with my friend George. but i made it absurdly complicated and long - like 3-4 pages of script and probably >20 samples!
i think we gave up about 3 minutes and 1 sample in.
