still b/p:
Someone I know was saying a year or so ago that the MSG fears and blames are, first of all, bunk, and her more important boldfaced headline was that the negative associations were entirely and historically racist. When she emphasized this a few times as the one and ONLY explanation, I spoke up and said I fully get that racism is an ingredient(!) in some of the suspicions, fallout and semi-freakouts, or in certain ugly knocks delivered by dolts, but that references to MSG I encountered throughout the 70s and beyond, in personal conversations and comedy riffs and elsewhere, were entirely without ANY link whatsoever to Chinese food or Chinese people. MSG was a widely present thing and an easy-grab symbol for thoughts about additives, processing and presumed chemical intruders in a period where those topics were gaining more attention and side-eye. The eventually common discussions about complaints tied to Chinese food were in maybe the later 80s into the 90s in my experience.
Anecdotal perspective, but still think it's a legit reality note/check.

in any case there's nothing remotely racist about an msg witch hunt. it's a documented enemy, in it's lab-produced form.

The CB Flame always a lovely place to be.
A fine crowd it draws as well, cheers to you all.

...it's not true about it being the 2nd largest industry; but that's beside the point. i agree with you about unfounded blame to outside countries.
didn't realise when i posted that how it could be misconstrued.

Actually the "scariest" part may be that it's one of the most dead-on portraits of "marriage" on film.
