Gemma Rogers | Never Have I Ever | Never Have I Ever Single | Interstellar Music Services | 2024 | NEVER HAVE I EVER - final track off NO FUTURE EP has dropped! inger-songwriter Gemma Rogers packs a whole 21st-century kitchen sink drama into her latest four-track EP No Future, which barely clocks in at a quarter of an hour. It has veritable multiple influences – some mellifluous, others deliberately harsh by way of the gritty side of the 2011 film Attack The Block – that connect with the Spotify-saturated youth of today. Working with producers EAMES, Gareth Ashton (The Verve, Rolling Stones, Tina Turner) and Mike Tournier (of dance legends Fluke); she projects an in-your-face sound to enhance her whiplash sense of catharsis. he X-Ray Spex-like Never Have I Ever is the EP’s hammer home crux – a biting critique on normalisation of sexual violence directed at women. “I thought it was worth exploring and comparing my attitude to men by looking at things I’ve never done or said to a man, she says, Things that would seem bizarre or wrong; but these bizarre or wrong actions from a man to a woman are somehow normalised by some.“ | * | 0:03:52 (Pop-up) |
Mhaol | Snare | Snare Single | Merge | 2024 | “‘Snare’ is about countless conversations I’ve had since my first drum lesson on my ninth birthday about how bizarre it is that I play that instrument, or how I should be doing it differently,” recalls M(h)aol’s lead vocalist and drummer Constance Keane. “The idea of society gendering an inanimate object like a drum kit, when it’s something that brings me so much joy and release, has always frustrated me hugely, and I thought it was time to sing about it.” Mhaol are from Dublin, Ireland and are concerned with Feminism. Animal welfare. Chipper chips. | * | 0:06:56 (Pop-up) |
Cabeça Cheia | Sobcontrole | Cabeça Cheia | Cabeça Cheia | 2024 | Hailing from Sao Paulo Brazil, Kabeça Cheia is a sound mix channeled by the mind of José Victor Barroso. Midgee | Somebody Shot Me | Split | Grog Records | 2024 | Midgee are from Brisbane. We learned last time we played them that it's very important to Fuck Mortein. We also learned that a Midgee is a Midge, a small, non-biting flies that are similar in appearance to mosquitoes: Mortein is an insecticide commonly sold in Australia, and made its first appearance as a bug killer in the 1870s by J. Hagemann, a German immigrant to Australia. It is believed that Hagemann himself came up with the name Mortein, with a little help from his French wife. The word "Mortein" is a combination of the French word "mort" (dead) and the German word "ein" (one) Also fuck Peter Dutton. | * | 0:14:18 (Pop-up) |
Pan Amsterdam, Leron Thomas | White Ninja | White Ninja Single | Heavenly Recordings | 2024 | Pan Amsterdam, the artist formerly known as Leron Thomas as the latest addition to the Heavenly family, and welcome the release of his brand new single ‘White Ninja.’ The track whips past in 96 seconds and features a dialogue about cultural appropriation and instant gratification that bobs and weaves like a cruise liner floating across the Sea of Tranquility. Thomas – aka Pan Amsterdam – is a New York based musical nomad. Rapper, jazz trumpeter, producer, musical director, thinker, often all at once. Thomas’ music traverses a woozy, nocturnal world where his many musical disciplines morph and merge into a deeply odd yet consistently coherent sound. It’s a world where Christopher Walken’s Pulp Fiction character Captain Koons is as key a collaborator as Doves’ Jimi Goodwin (on his excellent recent NightjaR album), Metronomy (on their dreamy summer smash Nice Town) or Iggy Pop (both on stage and on record). On his tracks, lyrics spiral in the way that the best after-hours hip-hop music does, making you feel like you’ve followed him all the way down the rabbit hole. | * | 0:15:52 (Pop-up) |

Marc Rebillet | Fuck Donald Trump | Loop Daddy | Bored Certified | 2018 | Rebillet's music is defined by his use of a Boss RC-505 loop station, which allows him to layer his voice with keyboards, tambourines, and other hand percussion instruments. Most of his songs are improvised, and include elements of funk, soul, hip hop, and house music, as well as comedy skits. Nick Pagano described Rebillet's music as ranging "from soulful serenading piano ballads to funky bass licks to downright club bangers, and is always accompanied by his unique sense of humor". His lyrics tend to be comical, silly, or vulgar, enough so that he has been referred to as a comedian. Rebillet's "goofy", "nerdy", yet "earnest" personality plays a role in his popularity. Speaking about the lyrical content of Rebillet's songs, WBUR's Tonya Mosley said, "they’re actually really insightful. It’s sort of like social commentary." Rebillet has mentioned Reggie Watts, Nina Simone, Madlib, and James Blake as sources of inspiration. Speaking about Reggie Watts, Rebillet has said, "I would not be doing this if he didn’t exist." | 0:20:29 (Pop-up)

"New album Ventre Unique – their sixth, and the successor to 2021’s acclaimed We’re Ok But We’re Lost Anyway – is as exuberant as it is emotionally fraught with a dream amalgam of folk, krautrock, post-punk and African rhythms that feels both uncluttered and beautifully organic." //// "Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp is a perpetually evolving ‘orchestra’, loosely modelled on the great 20th-century African groups like Tout Puissant Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou and tipping its hat to revolutionary French artist Marcel Duchamp." //// https://orchestretoutpuissantmarcelduchamp.bandcamp.com/album/ventre-unique | * | 0:37:51 (Pop-up) |
Hak Baker | No Control! | Nostalgia Death EP | Hak Attack / AWAL Recordings | 2024 | Hak Baker explains: “No Control” is a crowning moment of the past. I would never be me if we didn’t choose to live in our own movie-like world. One day we will make a movie of it because it truly deserves it. No kids lived like us on the edge of the true east London bastions. Never taking no for an answer, pic-axing our present into fruition. It was the best though it was at 1000mph pace. I wanted to also sing and dance about it too. After all there are two sides to a coin." | * | 0:42:53 (Pop-up) |

LCD Soundsystem | X-Ray Eyes | X-Ray Eyes [Digital Single] | Excelsior / Sony | 2024 | Released Nov 1. "LCD Soundsystem have officially released “X-Ray Eyes,” the new song that got premiered on NTS Radio in October. James Murphy produced the single, and he co-wrote it with Al Doyle and Nancy Whang, the latter of whom also does some vocals with Murphy. //////// Murphy shared a statement to go with “X-Ray Eyes,” teasing the band’s fifth studio album. He wrote: so there’s a new lcd song now called x ray eyes. it’s the first single of what’s shaping up to be a new album. don’t ask me when that is, because we’re still working on it. but it feels very good to be putting out new music. we made a small run of silkscreened 12”s that will sell at the upcoming LA and NYC shows, and DFA will have a limited grip of them, but don’t freak out if you don’t get one because there will be a more readily available commercial release of the same record when we can get it together. we just made a pile of white labels and are screening 100 at a time for each gig. it’s a short lead time thing. and it’s fun. //////// but, no, there’s no finished LP yet. but when we’re not playing shows, it’s getting closer and closer to completion. so that’s the news. anything else you hear is bullshit speculation. //////// go vote. //////// j"" | * | 0:50:45 (Pop-up) |

Cyril Cyril | Le Tocsin | le futur ça marche pas | Born Bad Records | 2024 | This album came out in April of this year and continues to deliver the goodness. "....You should have seen these two, on a populous festival night, bringing a narrow club to fever pitch by summoning utopian Neguses. Playing new Berbers, provoking unlikely seismic soukous in a trance that has as much to do with the hippie giddiness as with Fraggle Rock. Indeed, for Cyril Cyril, music is a way of the world, a joyful decentration offering new keys to comprehend chaos. The point here has nothing to do with some globalized country excursion nor some gluten-free exoticism. Beneath the beach lie the paving stones. Politics always end up showing on the surface of these exhilarating chants, of these skeletal grooves. Apart from tracing back the family pathway of some belatedly-adopted Lebanese dialect, Cyril Yeterian chants rhapsodies in French, the merciless terms of which say it all about coming insurrections...." | 1:08:00 (Pop-up)
The Horrors | Trial By Fire | Trial By Fire Single | Fiction | 2024 | With their long-awaited new album set to land early next year, The Horrors have now dropped the next cut to be lifted from their forthcoming full-length. Speaking about the new offering, they said, “’Trial By Fire’ is one of the more aggressive songs on ‘Night Life’, bridging the gap between our two industrial EPs and the new album. Rhys began the demo in Southend isolation, before we got together and twisted it into something meaner. It’s about the curses that follow you through your life. For The Horrors, every day is Halloween.” | * | 1:09:30 (Pop-up) |
The Mind | Let's Experience Yr Head | Open Up The Window and Leave Your Body | Lumpy | 2021 | This is the second album by Cleveland’s the MIND, a band capable of crafting beautifully gloomy gems of songs: vaporous, uncanny, and with all the hidden qualities of a Man Ray photograph. Their sound is really peculiar, it lives in the exact confluence of ’80s post-punk and early dream pop. The music feels like a monolith casting a shadow over a poppy field. There is a dark psychedelic edge to the songs, reminding me of Chicagoans DA! or really early SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES. The band seems to really be hitting you straight from the unconscious with each song, and this is an LP that deserves to be played really loud late at night.... | 1:13:31 (Pop-up)
Why Bother? | Grim Anticipation | Hey, At Least You're Not Me | Feel It Records | 2024 | Greetings from the Northern plains of the hopeless heartland. We are now entering the time when the leaves hiss and the dark corners of reality are not so brightly lit....And hidden within these long shadows reside the band WHY BOTHER? where they have recorded and will be releasing yet another album to close the punk rock door on 2024. ...This record we call ''HEY, AT LEAST YOU'RE NOT ME'' was going to be released in 2025 , but we decided that the sooner the better is the way to go so we can focus and work on more material for the future. (Until then, this is our self-proclaimed masterpiece to date) So what do you think?... Is there even a future to talk about?.... Well, the ALL seeing eye says YES. But will you be there to embellish it is the REAL question. If so, we will be there waiting for you. Sincerely, WHY BOTHER? | * | 1:15:19 (Pop-up) |
Damon Locks & Rob Mazurek | Support the Youth (With Sound) | New Future City Radio | International Anthem | 2023 | New Future City Radio is the first duo collaboration of longtime creative partners Damon Locks & Rob Mazurek. In a hyperactive 40-minute, 18-track suite that runs like a boombox mixtape, the two prolific multi-media artists contemplate community, transformation, and the future through the programmatic format of a pirate radio station for the people. Themes both sonic and text based were predetermined but improvisation leads the journey. The music these two have devised may sound hyper-charged one moment and gently transportive the next, and often somewhere in between. When asked about New Future City Radio the duo exclaim in one voice: "I'm talking post, post, post, future. I'm talking resilience and levitation. I'm talking beauty and structural integrity for my people. I'm talking light beams that tell stories and educate. Let's talk about that if you wanna talk new future!" | 1:18:15 (Pop-up)
Marinaro | Beyond the Rainbow Tunnel | Hella Love | Hardly Art | 2021 | Hella Love, the Hardly Art debut from Marinero, is an album about closing a chapter. It’s Jess Sylvester’s grand farewell, and love letter to his hometown and the place he grew up, The San Francisco Bay Area, before relocating to Los Angeles after finishing his debut release. Using the moniker Marinero (which means “sailor” in Spanish), Jess Sylvester was drawn to this name as a means to honor his parent’s stories -- his father, a sailor, and mother, a Mexican-American who grew up in San Francisco. This record blends many worlds from beginning to end, and as you go deeper it hits harder. It’s his goodbye to The Bay. | 1:19:42 (Pop-up)

Pixies | Jane (The Night the Zombies Came) | The Night The Zombies Came | Pixies Recording Inc / BMG | 2024 | The full album, released Oct 25. "35 years since their groundbreaking platinum-certified album Doolittle catapulted the band into the UK Top Ten, and 20 years since their celebrated reformation at Coachella, Pixies are deep into their second act, and in the midst of a creative purple patch. The Night The Zombies Came is Pixies' tenth album, if you count their classic 1987 4AD mini-LP, Come On Pilgrim, and first new music since 2022's acclaimed Doggerel LP. 13 new songs that find Pixies looking ahead to the most cinematic record of their career. Druidism, apocalyptic shopping malls, mediaeval themed restaurants, 12th century poetic form, surf rock, gargoyles, bog people, and the distinctive dry drum sound of 1970s-era Fleetwood Mac are just some of the disparate wonders that inform the new songs." | * | 1:33:54 (Pop-up) |

It is the band's first release of new material in 16 years since the release of 4:13 Dream in 2008. Siouxsie & The Banshees | Voodoo Dolly [John Peel 10/2/81] | At The BBC | Polydor | 1981 / 2009 | "At the BBC consists of four discs containing 84 digitally remastered tracks of BBC sessions, live concert tracks and TV performances recorded between 1977 and 1991 split across three CDs and a DVD, as well has a hard-back book. //// The DVD featured several live sessions filmed for The Old Grey Whistle Test and Oxford Road Show, and for the first time, a previously-unreleased concert filmed in Warwick in March 1981, prior to their Juju album, with John McGeoch on guitar. Robert Smith was also featured on guitar on nine songs, including a TV session in 1979 and all the TV appearances from November 1982 through March 1984." //// "Mojo wrote: In a four-disc box 3 CDs cover their BBC sessions but it's the one vital DVD that reveals the Banshees’ true nature. Make no mistake: post-punk started here. And that’s not the half of it. Between late 1977 and autumn ’79, no British band could touch the Banshees. Their infamous, improvised August ’76 debut at the 100 Club Punk Rock Festival had taken DIY to its literal extreme. A year later, they re-emerged with a John Peel session that was light years from numbskull punk. That debut, still shockingly artful and assured, heads off 55 songs recorded for BBC Radio which make up the first three discs here. A fourth parcels up 29 performances shot for BBC TV. From an ice cool arrival on Old Grey Whistle Test, to a saffron-flavoured farewell on Top Of The Pops 13 years later, it chronicles the transformation of punk’s most militant iconoclasts into an alternative music colossus." | 1:46:40 (Pop-up)

TLDR:
I was returning home Halloween night. I said to myself "Donot go down that road; there is traffic and it is hilly and curvy. Go down the other one." I skated down the other road and towards the end of the decline, i fell. Had it been daylight, i would have just walked. As i learned the next day, there were fissures and a mini-crater in the road.
Yes, i ride with a helmet and a light. And nice people stopped to check up on me.
