The older one is by a head -- I appreciate learning about all the bootlegs that were out there even as I regret how I had a bunch that were lost when my dad died. He lets the band speak in their own words and is not afraid to point out their self-contradictions. The newer one does a good job of foregrounding queerness and the art-school grounding of the scene in a lot of ways (someone write a bio of Limbo District!). And it was good for me to reconnect to a band that was so important to me but that faded somewhat from the depth of connection that I had during the whole ferment of college/grief/sudden adulthood. I'm definitely the target audience!

The older one is by a head -- I appreciate learning about all the bootlegs that were out there even as I regret how I had a bunch that were lost when my dad died. He lets the band speak in their own words and is not afraid to point out their self-contradictions. The newer one does a good job of foregrounding queerness and the art-school grounding of the scene in a lot of ways (someone write a bio of Limbo District!). And it was good for me to reconnect to a band that was so important to me but that faded somewhat from the depth of connection that I had during the whole ferment of college/grief/sudden adulthood. I'm definitely the target audience!
