I don’t see how anyone can fail to see this as a monumental, potentially epochal, time in this country. Possibly more divided than ever (though as someone who reads lots of history there have been far more violent and unsettled eras, I.e the Abolitionist and Free Kansas movements, the labor strikes of the 1890’s, etc etc) this is the first time I’ve ever seen the fastest and most powerful coalescing of both R and L over the issue of the rapacity of healthcare. If there was *ever* an issue to unite us all it has been this, for decades anyone one can see this crystal clear.
We’re in a potentially pure moment that dwarfs the pathetic distraction of hyper-partisan politics being manipulated by the corporate media.
For a long time I’ve been hoping for a cataclysmic moment, and been let down by the public’s inability to congeal around various other instances of justice and criminality exposed. But it’s so plain and easy to see that the bravery and single-mindedness of this young man Mangione, if it indeed is him (I don’t trust a *single thing* police say, they’re proven to be an institution filled with inveterate liars corrupt to the bone), to turn his healthcare misery into a chance for the public to unite around something we’ve been conditioned to believe just can’t be changed because capitalism is our religion.
It’s a new day, folks.
If you want it.

I’m not on FarceBook either, Mark. But I understand part of their myriad ways of trapping people on it are these emoji things that allow people to react, for example, with a laughing one or crying one. Apparently for the announcement of the CEO’s death it was 10 to 1 laughing. Just one of frankly countless examples of the righteous, pent up rage expressed almost unanimously all over the internet that people feel for an industry that *literally* for its massive profit margins depends upon denying people life-saving care and driving them into bankruptcy.
Would it be fair to say Chuck literally laughing when asked if he was related to Luigi is yet another in the column for those who are more aligned in empathy for the victims of healthcare profits, than the ultra rich CEO who lived a life of obscene luxury literally built off of the blood of those who unnecessarily had to suffer premature deaths?
In all seriousness your show is so vitally important; I’d love to know your opinion.
What do you make of the gargantuan surveillance system’s inability to help catch or identify the alleged assassin right away from midtown Manhattan?
And how do you think the authoritarian corporate and law enforcement sectors will use this to further their web of social control and spying (i. e. More cameras in Central Pk for instance? Which would be so gross).

I was flipping through the outdoor fifty-cent record bin at the local cafe / record shop looking for a prop for K8's kids' play this week (true story), and a gold convertible, top down, fully *festooned* with Christmas crap, driving by a Santa Claus-at-wearing old white jerk (as best I could tell from the limited look I was willing to give) drove up and down the street, both ways, at something under 5 MPH *blasting* "Holly Jolly Christmas." I Macauley Culkined to beat the band.

It’s chilling to our personal privacy (an essential part of society) that we’re being monitored every move, by either the state or willingly by our SpyPhones, etc. This is right out of Klein’s book about disaster capitalism (name escapes me now).
I remain deeply concerned about the extent to which people (folks here at or approaching middle/old age) have watched this systemic dystopia surround us and mostly shrugged. We’ve been browbeaten to accept it as part of “progress” and the like.
I teach my grade school kids all the time to be aware of do whatever they can to take to others in their generation who have only known this world to push back in any ways they can.
We need to remain vigilant and United in pushing back.

Cognitive dissonance there, after what you said about Penny being a murderer.

a group of 4 aggressive robbers together is a serious threat; a desperate homeless man not so much.
a choke hold may have been appropriate; a choke hold with intent to kill is quite a different story.
of course Goetz went too far, he overreacted; but he reacted. he was being threatened and he was scared -and pissed-off, rightfully.
but yes that last, crippling shot was criminal.
