Hey, welcome back Pete and good morning to you, Bob and the rest of you. Glad you’ll be focusing on Mike, Butter and Big Nick this morning. Some of my favorite cats ever. Nick was probably the most unknown but got his revenge by living the longest. He was too street smart to let the streets kill him. Loved Better Days almost as much as the original PBBB. But, Mike was my main man. Wish he had gotten some help with his mania and insomnia instead of self-medicating with junk. There’s no telling how far that guitar genius would’ve taken music if he had lived long enough.

Yes. He did new things...and not much imitated either. Blues bands tend to be conservative, but Butterfield and Bloomfield both were expanding the territory

My first blues record EVER was a 45 of Roller Coaster by Little Walter.

I heard it in a psychedelic surfing movie called Pacific Vibrations.

You'd be surprised at the outlier cases even today of students admitted to prestigious universities. One of my students at Berkeley this past year was formerly incarcerated. He now hopes to work within the justice system to repair it.

First blues record for me, can't remember, but first Little Walter, 'Off The Wall' off of CHESS Heavy Heads compilation for me...and I could actually muster the $4. 50 or whatever it was for a Marine Band back then, to imitate it...harps are super expensive today yeeesh

Sticking my old man toes back in the chat-my first connection to "real" blues came from an obsession with Taj Mahal-it's a small step from there to Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, etc...
