Perhaps my favorite Christmas vocal (not strictly choral) album, Sequentia's Aquitania:

In particular, the last track renders Pink Floyd superfluous.
I enjoy a good Vienna Boys Choir recital on Deutsche Grampphon. This might be it, but labels fuck with the covers, so who knows?

Then there are decades of near perfect recordings of holiday-related work for voice and choir. I mean, the bounty is impossible to absorb.

Saw an absolutely incredible SML (Butterss, Jeremiah Chiu, Joshua Johnson et al) performance a couple weeks back at Public Records. Sam, or anyone, make it out to anymore those International Anthem showcase ?

I find it interesting that I regard my consumption(?) of great music in terms of consultation. But I can't think of a better way to put how one should engage with the Messiean. It is a kind of consultation.

So much music engages the public (us) in an American Bandstand mode: it's catchy, we can dance to it. It's all subjective. (I don't believe this.)
But that's not the whole story with Messiaen. I want to hear competing(?) recordings to discover how this work has unfolded in the minds of conductors and orchestras who have delivered it.
I consult these recordings. I also happen to enjoy and adore them. Imagine that. I'm thinking, feeling, and opinionating all at once.

The Threadgill was great; the tribute band must have been amazing.
