I know Meta products and FB in particular became a Gen-X meeting place, hence so many Millenials and Gen-Z fleeing it. It got a lot of people hooked who were otherwise somewhat tech challenged, so expecting them to move to Bluesky (etc) with me is unrealistic.

On meditation, when I was a bit younger and had much more free time I did it frequently for a year and feel like I really noticed a lot of improvement in my mental health. Sadly I no longer have as much time or energy to devote to it, but wish I did. That period was also probably the height of my creative output. Maybe I should also look into David Lynch’s meditations…

I've got a friend here in town who's going to undertake actual TM, inspired by Lynch's advocacy of it.
I've done various meditation methods over the years but nothing super formal, nor backed by an org, etc. I'm a bit skeptical of TM, but I have no doubt that meditation is really beneficial (for me, at least).

I had my granson over for a sleepover. I tried to get him to go to sleep in the guest room and he insisted I lay down with him until he fell asleep. We watched funny cat videos until he couldn't keep is eyes open, so he says 'put on something you'd like to watch'. I told him he would find that very boring, to which he said 'I know. I want to fall asleep!".

I use an app for medation, almost every night, Headspace (there are others, some free, Headspace has a charge). I do like it. I generally do 10 minutes each session, haven't found it to hurt my sleep (try to sleep 7-8 hours a night, sleep is underappreciated). I have chronic back pain (official diagnosis: spinal stenosis), found the mediation one of the modalities that help for it.

I'm not convinced anything makes you "need" to sleep less. The rewiring/learning/forming memory, cleansing of those neurons up there need a certain number of cycles of sleep to be completed. (but I'm open to studies that show TM does mean needing less sleep-there are many studies on how important 8 hours are, even one hour less makes a dfference).

I managed to get a bit over 8 hours last night. Such a feat. I wake up several times a night, but always manage to get back to sleep. I've just accepted it as normal at my age. I usually put beatless, droney noise on to get back to sleep or if my brain won't shut up, I put on something like Alan Watts or an Over The Edge episode to help by brain defrag.
