he was okay on mic (aside from intentionally making his back announce incomprehensible! -and refusing to name flipper when he played it, because *we should know already*!)
but he let a lot of banned words through within the music...and it was pretty obvious that he knew what he was doing!

-but i remember his girlfriend(?) hanging out with him in the studio, and whenever he played reggae (pop reggae i.e. steel pulse - for it's political value) she'd yell at him that "nobody wants to hear reggae"!
