I am undecided, but I got what I wanted (beautiful shots of beautiful clothes in beautiful settings).
I have come to appreciate melodrama (of the 1950s Hollywood variety) and Almodóvar usually lives there, somewhat campily.
But this being his own script for an English-language feature, it was hard for me to get a read on whether some of the unrealness was his lack of English, how much was melodrama, and how much was his own sensibility.

Strangely, I loved Julianne Moore's performance but was less sure about Swinton: my wife felt the opposite.

Apropos of nothing, I finally discovered something I've been wondering for years: where the bubble tea shops get their tea. It's called Bossen, from Taiwan. (Not to be confused with Boseong from Korea.) If only I were entrepreneurial, I'd start a discount boba chain and undercut everyone with $2.50 or $3 tea, since they're all charging $6-7+ (!!!) now. I'd be the Walmart of bubble tea. Or at least the Aldi.
