↳ Song: "Diamond In The Rough" by "Richard Diamond, Privat...
After Dick Powell left, "Rogue's Gallery," he essentially took the same character to this show, "Richard Diamond," where he barely changes the name, and the gimmick, and essentially has a continued life as the lead in a show that he had a little more control over. We don't get Eugor, but every episode ends with Richard singing a song to his girlfriend!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm

We should write a detective script where at no point are there more than two conscious characters in the same scene.

The original sound on this one is pretty fuzzy, so I did my best to restore it to a more listenable state. Hopefully everyone can follow. Further episodes have much better sound.

Dick Powell's career before he started playing more noir type characters on radio and in film, he had a career singing, and was a bit of a minor crooner. So when he could slip a little piano and singing into something, he usually did. In a way, he's sort of like Sinatra; started out as a crooning hearthrob, then made a turn for the tough guy.

Richard Diamond, punching women during his first case.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 9:17pm
Austin Rich:

While I have never done the mental gymnastics to try and rationalize how Richard Rogue and Richard Diamond are the same characters, I'm sure there's someone who had written that fanfic, and I feel like I've heard other commentators make claims like that. I do think of the shows together, as Dick Powell is very similar as the lead in each. But I think they work fine as separate shows, with interesting stories, and that's good enough for me.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 9:19pm

And, since they are similar, I decided that we can continue using The Fitch Shampoo Sponsor, as they have been so good to us through Rogue's Gallery.

Helen is Diamond's girlfriend throughout the series, and while he flirts and smooches and gets VERY close to infidelity, he's completely in love, and always ends his nights at her house, in spite of how sleezy he often gets.

The implied violence here is pretty rough to listen to. This show does not shy away from... some very dark content, for a show from 1949.
