Busy as heck with work today but wanted to drop in and say Hi and thanks for this phenomenal set. I LOVE that you have Nina Hagen (pronounced "HA-gen" as in "ha ha ha") as your opening music. Always gets me up and moving!
Hey peeps -- did you all know that WFMU has its own subReddit? Anyway I was having degraded sound on my oldish PC (the one I'm on now) and found a great solution for improving sound quality without any fuss -- you can grok my post at www.reddit.com...
And in that same subreddit, someone asked about a WFMU Discord. I think it would be a cool place to extend convos started on the boards here, but obvs that would require an admin. If anyone out there has the bandwidth (like anyone WFH in a sysadmin job) it may be fun!

Whatever you call the genre of Amanda (from Irwin's show), these guys seem to be in that same pocket.

Everyone jumped down the posters throat on the discord idea but I like it. Would give people who listen to programs outside of air time a way to converse about them
My experience with Discord is that it is an absolutely terrible method of communication with zero sense of community. It's also very much a SV surveillance capitalism platform. I would not recommend.
Was just wishing I was at the office so someone could come by and hear this. I continually "forget" to turn the radio down when someone comes in my office.
Aaah, there you are! Working breakneck today and gotta jump in the shower/get my mail soon but was gonna hit you up RE Discord. If you have the bandwidth, would you volunteer as an admin? I may be able to do some light moderation also if the Discord is invite-only or request an invite only. We can discuss offline! I have a Discord account; I'm Threemoons over there also.
I don't think so anymore. I have the app on my phone but I used it for years before I installed the app. You CAN do 2FA for Discord but it's not mandatory.
Heh...I've had the opposite experience. Then again, I tend to stick to very specific gaming sites and a few computer support sites. The gaming sites are corpo-run and very well moderated, and my gaming guilds all lean towards older more sedate folx and are also moderated. YMMV.
hopping in to say i'm in a few discords that i luvvv but it is very overwhelming to get used to the format at first. it's a cool place people can socialize over the internet without ads, you can stream videos and movies through it, play games, whatever. hehe
I'm pretty sure I saw Mike White's Chuck & Buck (2000) with my parents but I must have blocked out the memory.

Oh my God Jess- yes you covered our eyes to keep them pure - LOL! I guess that’s why dad pulled away from me when we were on the kiss cam at the dodger game with you girls!!
Once long ago we were visiting my wife's family and we got sent to pick up a videotape for everyone to watch with her grandmother--she picked Serial Mom, forgetting the more outre scenes. It was sort of fun to witness as someone who married in.
I've been using it for forever for gaming. Guilded and a few other platforms tried to compete but if you do any kind of MMORPG you sort of need Discord at this point. If you need a hot mike for group coordination, your two choices are the usually shite built-in-game audio settings which invariably fuck up all your other playback presets or Discord. The other advantage of Discord is that if you DO have the app, you don't have to be in front of your computer if you are playing on another platform like my PS5.
i've had two very posiitive experiences community-wise, and three 'meh' experiences. it depends on who makes up the community and how committed they are to the community and what it represents.
It was supposedly what happens to you when you are doomed to hell for eternity. Imagine the worst, most evil people from history, along with the raunchiest sex you can imagine. I'll let you imagine the rest ...
I didn't know this either. Between that and the South Park movie's scenes with Satan and Saddam Hussein, those guys really seem to have a thing for ol' Beelzebub. (Unrelated, but the best Satan was Ray Wise in a short-lived comedy-action-fantasy TV series...)

Loved the live theremin set on Fabio's show yesterday, Dorit's got it goin' on.
Why would I join something called "Discord"? Seems to pre-disposition one to a certain view or mindset.
I had Bryce's show on at the office once, as the IT guy was responding to a different problem. "Do you hear that noise!?!" Me: "Oh, that's the radio."
