One of the best non-psych fuzz guitar tracks is "Have You Seen Her" by the Chi-Lites. No clue who the guitarist was. Also check some of the classic Philly Soul tracks with some fuzz and Coral sitar as played by Bobby Eli. What's funny, in high school, I heard This Mortal Coil doing his stuff and didn't put it together until later.

To me it sounded like they laid down the rhythm tracks, and then they had the soloists come in one at a time, and they gave them the chart, and each guy laid down his solo in the first take without hearing the track first, and without hearing the other soloists.

Is that too harsh?

The result does have a certain disjointed charm.

We saw him at the knitting factory around that time....and I recall he walked up the stairs just as the band started up....almost like he wasn't supposed to be playing. My memory is that it was awesome.

I saw Alex at least a dozen times. Box Tops, Big Star and lots of solo. The only time he ever phoned it in for me was when he was opening a sold out Blues Explosion show and people were really into him. Naturally he was bored. Seeing him up close in small rooms I always found him incredibly warm and cool.

Oh yes! I mixed it up with something else, Matthew Sweet show that those same friends played. Funny, I saw them the other day and they talked about opening for Alice Donut in Louisville. Lol

I don't dislike the later stuff. It just kind of bums me out. The music business is so goddamn stupid and terrible. And it's only worse (such that it exists at all) now.

My only time seeing Chilton live was a Box Tops reunion show at the World Trade Center in '99 or so. They were great & signed my album afterwards too. Never heard the Big Star reunion album, wondered how good it was.

What Robyn Hitchcock wrote to eulegize Chilton when he passed was (of course) on point. Clearly he bore some combination of resignation & resentment with his place in Music History...

Would he care ? Suggested it's not Drumpf's second term - it's First Lady Elonia's first... Is he campaigning anymore - ever again ? Will we have an Electoral Process @ all ?...
