You know what's weird, though? It was arranged by Abe Tilman (the singer in the band) but the other arranger was Johnny Allen, who did a bunch of arrangements for Memphis stuff (nothing with Willie Mitchell that I can see) but a bunch of stuff with Isaac Hayes and the Dramatics (another Detroit/Mamphis connection)

Seemed to be some back and forth there. Apparently some of the Emeralds stuff was Memphis demo work that they took back to Detroit where they added strings or whatever....and they were from Arkansas, ha ha ha....all that matter really I guess is that it's great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm
Funky16Corners:

There was a Chicago/Memphis pipeline as well. I keep finding stuff on Stax/Volt that goes right back to Chicago. Everyone wanted to sound like that!

Brockett was something of a cult artist/big deal in the Northeast in his day.I have his first two records, one on an indie label, this one on Capitol. He is idiosyncratic, but I dig him. I mean, granted, he's no Timothy Chamolet...
