A critic (ideally) helps people understand the context and direction of what is happening now. WFMU DJs definitely serve this function, whether they engage in curation and discussion of music, or art or even the broader things happening in society.

It is written by two academics, one a US Historian at UCLA, and the founder - a professor of statistics and computer science at American University in Amsterdam. They post every AM about the previous days news. It's an insightful look at the news in a historical context. For you data geeks they make all the data available (although this is really more relevant for elections). Seriously, I can't get through the day without regarding their perspective.

The relentless broadcasting of mind-fuckery so that no two people can hold a conversation that isn't gibberish. This has every possibility of ending in utter carnage, and while everyone is saying, 'ideally this should be this and that should be that', you have Gaza, the Ukraine, Syria, Lebanon, etc etc etc. Everyone talks a lot of wind while they watch....you may have to take this to the streets before too long. You need to realize the extent to which the game has changed. You have a predator bearing down on you, and unlike our evolutionary forebears, you can't just take to the canopy. You have let that tiger into your house. Chatting with it isn't going to work. It's too late. And the only solutions immediately start to look like Insurrection, but that might also make less and less sense, as all of the agencies and connections that even make the country get dissolved. There is already blood all over the planet, and your President doesn't give a good goddamn.

And the only solutions immediately start to look like Insurrection, but that might also make less and less sense, as all of the agencies and connections that even make the country get dissolved. There is already blood all over the planet, and your President doesn't give a good goddamn.
