I had an old granary to clear and heard all sorts of tales about the anvil market and how the anvil on which my grandmother used to chop up the chicken feed would be such a score and how I needed to get in touch with the anvil people because anvils were gold, and then I did and the anvil person was super psyched about my description of the anvil and was all over it offered ... $60. And when I said, "Really?" He went to "Well, OK, $70," and I decided it really didn't take up that much room after all.

Sounds cheap unless it is tiny. Most anvils seem to start at $150

Right? Well, depressed economy out in western Michigan. I'll wait for the market to bounce back. Or you never know what you might need.

Popcorn is a musical genre defined by a group of nice people in Belgium in the 1970s. Midtempo American or Jamaican records from the 50s-70s, for the most part, but not exclusively. Can be any genre as long as it is a tempo that lends itself to partner dancing where you twirl around the whole time. Common themes include working, minor keys, anvils. Sixteen Tons and Fever are classic examples of popcorn.

I remember hearing an interview on noisextra where a guy talked about getting a real anvil onstage to use as percussion and how heavy it was and how little sound it produced....something you'd think they'd have at least half assumed and tested prior to going to the trouble of moving it.

@Becky Thank you for the deeper explanation!! I love learning about genres like this!!

I was in a noise band in the 80s and recorded stuff banging on a big tank in a basement that had been used for heating fuel...that made an awesome sound, kind of like this 1800tankvac.com...

I don’t think is an anvil sound in 16 tons? Especially since it’s about working in a coal mine… you may thinking about that Cgain gang song?

Handy Haversack:

↳ Barney Grubbs @8:59
"The goblins in The Hobbit are huge, fat, froggy terrors with cat eyes, bull horns, and enormous mouths. What’s in their enormous mouths? Well, teeth, as you’d expect. But scarier than that is that they have two throats. TWO THROATS!! Why on Middle-earth would anything need two throats? The goblins end up as a constant threat for the dwarves and hobbits. They show up three times throughout the story, the first two of which come with their own songs. If you listen you can hear Thurl Ravenscroft, the voice of “Tony the Tiger” and singer of the Grinch song, singing the above. Who else would you need?"
