In fact, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop was started by a woman, Daphne Oram, who wanted the UK to have an electronic studio like the ones flourishing in Germany and France. It's interesting that she could only get funding by becoming incorporated in to the entertainment world, which is what makes the electronic music that came out of the UK so different than the academic stuff coming out of Europe.

OOF i have not seen it either (the Madonna remake, directed by her then-husband) -- but i have heard it is really truly awful -- and not even in a funny, "kitchy" kinda way

have not seen Village of the Damned in ages (maybe in the 1970s? when i was still living at home with my parents -- who only had one black and white TV!) -- but right now i have a bunch of John Wyndham's books out from the library :)

i have wanted to see Panic in Needle Park when it came out! i was still a kid, but not like my parents would take us to see movies anyway -- but especially once the Upper West Side started to transform into fancy yuppie condos

now, i am not so sure -- some years ago, i read the basic synopsis, which included the fate of the puppy . . . i know, "it's only a movie," but still . . . (maybe bc i see too much of this sort of stuff irl?)

Tim Maloney and I are co-archivists for Negativland and we were talking about this exact problem - I have had nothing but bad luck with CD-R, they seemed to rot within a year. Tim has almost never had that problem. And he used some of the cheapest CD-R, too! Relevant facts seem to be whether they were stored in good conditions, but more importantly whether or not you had the original deck to play them back in.

i've had some cd-rs fail, but i think only the ones that were subjected to 6 weeks of >95ºf around 2015.
the one thing is, so far, all of them that wouldn't play in my vintage home cd changer (which is many, because the player itself is temperamental) *would* upload into my laptop; so asap i do that, save to wav file - and maybe burn a new cd to start the cycle over again.
