Mornin', BOB, and all the BRAINIACS! I was perusing the list of winners of the prestigious MacArthur Fellowships as I was listening to that early cut from ORNETTE COLEMAN. I knew he was an awardee, but several other musicians from the jazz world have also been honored, including ANTHONY BRAXTON, CECIL TAYLOR, JOHN ZORN, VIJAY IYER and others. I urge all the listeners to go to the website to see the complete list. Search for "jazz", "musician" or "composer."

In the mid-‘70s, I went to New Music Distribution Service on Broadway near Canal. I’d been looking to buy Escalator Over The Hill for a few years and couldn’t find it in any record store. Since I lived In Brooklyn, I figured I’d go right to the source. I just showed up and asked them if I could buy it there. They said sure, and I also bought the Jazz Composers Orchestra w/Cecil Taylor and a Michael Mantler album called No Answer and one or two others.

One of the most egregious snubs from the ROCK and ROLL HALL of FAME is PROCOL HARUM. The band's "WHITER SHADE OF PALE" was chosen as a "classic" song, but the group has never been an official inductee. Not that JANN WENNER and his HALL really matters! Just thought I would mention this fact.
