torn paper makes perfect fluffy snow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm
flannery:

i know.... it took me a whole gel pen to figure out there is another way
  8:07pm
Brian:

Gel pens rock. Bought a ten-pack and am surprised how much I love them

Dan S:

Hi flannery, fellow newlanders. NYC is in deep freeze too, but it may be a mild one by MN standards.

Anyway, it's been a rough day for me. I'm going to try to listen more and comment less for this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm
flannery:

hi dan s! sorry for your rough day, glad you are here. it hasnt been super snowy here tbh.... supposedly that comes in march...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm
flannery:

hi brian! uniball white gel pen is one of four i have on me at all times.

Mr Fab:

Hey, Flannery!

“Microtonal” suggests to me little, tiny musical sounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm
flannery:

hi mr fab! i myself am not always totally clear on what is microtonal and what is not but, generally, you're right
  8:21pm
wimpy:

This album feels like a well kept secret
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
flannery:

i agree wimpy

Update from v-dawg's kitchen:
I made bread; i hope that it is edible. This my first attempt in years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
flannery:

wow v-dawg thanks for the update. what kind is it? i used to make sweet breads but ive never made a functional sandwich bread or anything
Avatar 8:26pm
HyperDose:

so cold outside, but this show is warming me up!
Avatar 8:27pm
Mr Fab:

Wendy Carlos in general seems to get overlooked a lot. Too “pop” to be taken seriously by the art crowd, but too “classical“ for the Kraftwerk kids. If it weren’t for “switched On Bach,“ she’d be super obscure.
  8:29pm
v-dawg:

I dunno what kind. White flour, regular store yeast, almond milk, egg, sugar, salt. Baked at 350°F.
Some of the ingredients are old, flour and yeast.
I used to make foccaccia back in the day.
The previous attempt was BAD. I could not even eat it. It was like baked flour.
  8:31pm
Brian:

Wadud known for being on Julius Hemphill records and killing it
  8:31pm
?:

did you use bread flour? regular white flour doesnt have the gluten content that yeast breads need.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
flannery:

I was blanking on Black Unity Trio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
flannery:

but thank u. yes love wadud
  8:33pm
v-dawg:

Update from my desk (I guess that i feel confessional?):
I am gonna take the majority of my papers out and start from scratch. I will take care of the rest of the stuff in steps.
  8:34pm
Brian:

Ah IDK the Black Unity Trio record, should look into it. Also Wadud's son is the R&B singer Raheem DeVaughn (who I have no opinion on)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
Aitch:

↳ Song: "sound of children at play" by "kimio eto"
kimio hasn't met my children
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm
flannery:

oh its great! i will have to look up raheem devaughn. i love it when free jazz musicians have musical kids. mor thiam's son is akon... i guess anthony braxton's kid was in a post punk band....
  8:37pm
v-dawg:

Yes, i believe that it is regular white flour. Ask a mycologist if the yeast was still alive?
By the way, the package suggested diluting the yeast in water and a little bit of sugar.
  8:38pm
?:

↳ v-dawg @8:37
that's a good way to wake up the yeast, get it started living and growing again
  8:39pm
Brian:

yeast is alive, magic is afoot
  8:39pm
v-dawg:

↳ @8:38
Yeah, but the package was 10+ years old. The dough did not really rise or get warm.
Avatar 8:39pm
Mr Fab:

↳ Song: "invocation" by "the carpenters"
Can anyone guess the one Carpenters song I added to the Sheena’s stream?
Avatar 8:40pm
tenzig:

i'm sick in bed right now and this whole show is sooooo niiiiiice :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
newton:

I like the block yeast over the granular packets, feels more alive from the start, but fresh is necessary either way really. get fresh yeast and bread flour and try again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm
flannery:

  8:49pm
v-dawg:

The bread is edible, but it is should not be served guests!
I heard that putting a little salt on top before putting the dough in oven is a good idea.
  8:51pm
wimpy:

Really enjoyed the show tonight! This is my first time tuning in, I’ll be sure to make it a habit
Avatar 8:51pm
Speedo Gonzalez:

hello flannery and listeners!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
newton:

↳ v-dawg @8:49
did you make it in a bread pan or like a round boule on a sheet? I used to have a slab of soapstone I would make bread on, lightly dusted with cornmeal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
flannery:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
flannery:

vibes are different every week
  8:55pm
v-dawg:

I baked the bread in a ceramic cylindrical pan. I used a toaster oven, not the normal oven.
I put some olive oil and flour so that it would not stick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
Feldy:

Hi Speedo!
  8:56pm
wimpy:

I like a good one hour show, and the jungle stream seems to have a couple good ones
  8:59pm
v-dawg:

FYI, when i go to a potluck i usually bring wine/beer and maybe an appetizer. Maybe i can prepare a "real" dish for the main course this year.
  9:00pm
