wfmu On this day in 1940 St. Woody Guthrie wrote This Land Is Your Land at the Hanover House Hotel in New York City. This year it it was listed at No. 11 on Rolling Stone's list of "The 100 Best Protest Songs of All Time" and sits in the National Recording Registry next to such milestones of humanity as MLK's I Have A Dream speech, Purple Rain, and Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah. Guthrie penned the lyrics in response to Irving Berlin's God Bless America because he was tired of hearing Kate Smith on the radio. I feel ya Woods. With all the nonsense going on in this stolen land today, it's a shame that this song is more relevant than ever. Remember what that machine does kids and be like the machine.

He pub rockers were the last brit generation to grow up on just American music, punks were the first to grow up on both (the kinks & elvis). Pub rockers weren't embarrassed to sing in yank accents, punks did so only to take the piss.
