↳ Song: "Big Bass" by "Claire Welles"
From Claire's Bandcamp page:

"In late December 2023, my partner found an old Commodore Amiga 500 in a local junk shop for £50. We bought it immediately and fixed it up with a Raspberry Pi/PiStrom 32 (which gave it unlimited space and memory). By January it was functional and I began making music on it for the very first time, using OctaMED (version 5). Within a few weeks I'd done loads of music on it and an album was beginning to take shape. I did all the music on the Amiga and then ran off each of the individual track stems (all 8 of them) into Ableton, so I could mix the tracks to my liking and do the vocals. I didn't do much mixing on the music itself as I wanted to retain the original 8-bit sounds, I just polished them up a little. It was a whole new way of writing and working and was loads of fun…so having started the album in February it was completed by November (quite a long time for me to work on an album!).
It was a liberating experience working on this and I won't rule out another Amiga album in the future. The Amiga is such a creative and interesting computer, with a ton of personality. I'm glad to have finally got one in my life."

Such a sweet song.
I really miss female pop singers keeping it simple and not feeling that they have to wildly over-sing everything to be a "diva." Learn from the Shirelles, ladies!
Avatar 1:43pm

↳ Krys O. @1:39
Oh I didn't intend to minimize her! Just that if you do an Amiga album and do vocals, mix, master on Ableton it's a little "cheating". I loved the music. Just being a pedantic grandpa.

I feel you. I never went down that venture but I can symphatize. Personally my Ableton usage is for weird stuff and I rely on a handful of VSTs and mostly weird samples. I reduuced my VST/synths intake once everyone went toward subscriptions. I can't afford it and I don't pirate.

In a way it's a warped version of your college days. I mean there's instant feedback, but nothing you can do about the show. I guess in college you wouldn't even know if anyone was listening, and feedback came from any other people happening to be hanging out right there

Are you considering recording him? fFor bed music for instance)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm

That's very interesting. I did get phone calls from regular listeners. One chap was a limo driver who listened to my show while waiting for clients at the airport. Another caller told me how they recorded by shows on VHS tape to listen later.

Otherwise, I always assumed no one was listening.

Funny thing: I met Gary Panter in the mid-2000s and he told me about listening to my show while he was making art. I was stunned.
