Interesting... my fear with film is that you'd be looking at screens the whole time.. Which I hate. Web possibly if it was broken up into vinettes. I really think the theatre is its best medium.

re Black Bag 💼: as an enthusiastic Steven Soderbergh fan (haven’t seen everything, yet have appreciated most of his career)… had similar conflicted feelings/response to it. Perhaps went in with expectations too stoked - couldn’t help not getting met. My partner didn’t care for it much. It’s ‘entertaining’, yet meh. Ain’t got nuttin on say “Knives Out” etc.

Jon Batiste is a genius. I was lucky to see him perform at a benefit for Montclair Film Foundation at the lovely Wellmont Theater in Montclair. Steven Colbert was the MC, his wife is the head of MFF.

Stephen Sondheim and Anthony Perkins worked together on The Last of Sheila which in some ways is a precursor to Knives Out.

↳ Song: "Memories Are Made Of This" by "Dean Martin"
Oh, I do love Dean Martin. He doesn't get enough credit for his acting career. I recently saw the Toys in the Attic, and I thought he really held his own with Geraldine Page and Wendy Hiller.
Avatar 🌃 Swag For Life Member 8:11pm

↳ Bob Barth @8:06
Definitely. His father Osgood was a theater legend.

Erik in VT:

- the sleeper movie of the last few weeks for me was the latest Atom Egoyan’s “seven veils”. I used to see all of the Canadian directors movies, but latter films seemed to lose wider distribution (?!). I found this “Seven Veils” to be a continuation of his creative interpersonal mode from earlier career. for film reference, perhaps folks that responded to “TÁR” (which I thought was great) might appreciate this. It’s certainly not doing great box office - never was expected to I suppose. 🤷‍♂️

Hi Krys👋 … I can’t believe I’m not more familiar with Toys in the Attic (1963) - the kind of film that I’m drawn to. Usually appreciate those very stagey theatrical films derived from plays etc.
“the children’s hour”, Tennessee Williams adaptations, Erskine Caldwell, “Gods Little Acre” etc etc. Directed by a fave studio talent George Roy Hill (what a distinguished career!)
¿did you find it via classic TCM network? Thanks & Cheerio. 🕊️
Avatar 🌃 Swag For Life Member 8:49pm

↳ Erik in VT @8:39
Hey, Erik! Lillian Hellman is not usually my cup of tea. I kind of side with Mary McCarthy in their feud, but Dean Martin is good in that. He's really good in Some Came Running.

Yes, I saw Toys in the Attic on TCM. That's about the only thing I watch on TV.

Off the tangent, I learned about an obscure actor Robert Williams who was in Platinum Blonde with Jean Harlow and Loretta Young. Well, Robert Williams was like from another modern era than the early 1930s. His acting style was natural and riveting. He would have been legendary, but he sadly died after making only one more film with Leslie Howard.
