Presenting! | Rad Girlfriend Records | 2020 | How frustrating that a record this amazing came out during the pandemic. Faux Replika is a musical project that combines the talents of Roxy Epoxy (of yes, The Epoxies) and Chris Pierce (of Doc Hopper and others). The band play this sweet combination of synth-led new-wave and riff-y punk rock; electro-rock of yesteryear... An electrifying, eclectic mix of punk rock, new wave, hyper fuzzed out electro-rock, deluxe hooks and mega riffs. Think DEVO meets Tilt. Think Dance Hall Crashers meets Gary Neuman. It's strange, it's awesome and it's catchy as hell. | 0:02:21 (Pop-up)

Single | Soft Bait | 2024 | Big riffs from Soft Bait...Four-piece Post-punk band from Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland NZ. On No Bad Days: "Guess it was conceived at the end of a long lock down. You gotta have some stinkers to make it all worth it! No Bad Days is about the attitude that people want things to go their way all the time and just have good days. The bad ones create balance, and makes life interesting that if there were none, nothing will ever change, and we won’t have a reference to measure the good times...Just bloody have a good time, don’t get too focused when things aren’t going the right way for ya." | 0:07:13 (Pop-up)

Soil | Mr. Medicine Records | 2024 | This was the song that made this playlist happen. We play lots of epic music, but this is one of the most epic. No 1 | Partisan Records | 2019 | Stop a second. Tense all your muscles really tight. Feel the burn. That slightly tingling sensation of everything being wound as taught as possible and then - ahhh, sweet relief - is a bit like what it’s like listening to Montreal quintet Pottery’s debut. Frenetic and relentless, with nary a pause for breath, the likes of driving post-punk jangler ‘Spell’ or the dizzying ‘Hank Williams’ set a pace. Then, you get a brief pause of respite in the ‘60s howl of ‘Lady Solinas’ or Parquet Courts-esque ‘The Craft’, but at any point - mid-song or whenever they damn please - the band are prone to veer off down unexpected tangents and send your heart racing all over again. Fuck exercise, one listen to this is all the endorphin rush you need. | 0:18:21 (Pop-up)

Single | Crafting Room Recordings | 2024 | Drummer-turned-solo artist ELLiS·D spent their formative years flailing their limbs across the tattered kits of the UK and Europe’s basement scene before starting out a solo project in 2022. After signing with DIY label Crafting Room Recordings, the ensuing 18 months has seen him in a state of near consistent gigging and touring throughout the sweaty dives of the continent, bringing his raw, mercurial live performance to stages from London to Luxembourg, Bristol to Brussels, Kendal to Kusel. Embodying the extravagance and glam-pop sensibilities of the likes of Marc Bolan and New York Dolls with the lyrical sensitivity and intensity of The Smiths and Savages, ELLiS·D creates something uniquely contradictory. Jangly, threadbare riffs weave their way through CAN inspired rhythmic pulses as hook-smeared repetitions and explosive, abstract vocal acrobatics flow and fight their way into psych-driven instrumentals. | 0:20:36 (Pop-up)

Rick White- drums on Two Mares" /////////////////////////////////// --------------- "The term “Ein Sof” comes out of Jewish mystic theology. It’s a phrase for the unphraseable, a pair of words that stands in for the infinite-ness of god. It’s something that, almost by definition, no one can get a handle on. The harder you try to force it into words or thought, the more it slips away. Eiyn Sof with a “y” is a musical project that is likewise hard to pin down. It employs the simplest sort of instruments, the most fragile kinds of melodies to reach for the ineffable... //// ...Eiyn Sof is the performing name for Melissa Boraski, a Toronto singer who started in gospel, took a detour through rock bands like the Real Priscillas, broke off her musical career to have a couple of kids and [over the years] finally began inching [then diving] back in her limited spare time, making songs on guitar, piano, voice and an old synthesizer [at first]..." Afternoon X | Fire Records | 2023 | "Vanishing Twin are a London-based experimental trio, founded in 2015. The group is led by singer and guitarist Cathy Lucas, formerly a member of Fanfarlo, and have released four albums: Choose Your Own Adventure (2016), The Age of Immunology (2019), Ookii Gekkou (2021), and "Afternoon X" (2023). The band's name refers to the fetal absorption of Lucas's twin during pregnancy. //// The band consists of Cathy Lucas on vocals, Valentina Magaletti on drums (whose credits include Bat for Lashes and Gruff Rhys’ Neon Neon project), and bassist Susumu Mukai (aka Zongamin). Lucas was previously a member of Fanfarlo. "The group’s cosmopolitan membership initially reflected its mission to synthesize psychedelic traditions around the globe, from tropicalía to kosmische rock." //// From their BC page about this album: "Following a series of line-up changes, Vanishing Twin is now the tightly honed collective of singer and multi-instrumentalist Cathy Lucas, drummer Valentina Magaletti (Holy Tongue, Tomaga, Moin) and bassist Susumu Mukai (Zongamin). Harnessing the diverse touchstones of its members; Lucas’ left-field song-craft, Magaletti’s singular approaches to experimental percussion, and Mukai’s long history in the production of electronic music, the band has refined a hypnotic sound at the juncture of minimalism, kosmische, post-punk, and dream-laden, psychedelic pop... ...fluttering abstractions, culled, collaged, and built upon from a vast constellation of instruments, samples, and unclaimed sources. Lucas employs her voice as an instrument and a generator of raw sound, weaving surreal imagery and uncanny juxtapositions amongst the dance and propellant drive.... Vanishing Twin embark upon a new multifaceted journey that collectively culminates as the bands most forward-thinking and groundbreaking release to date." //// https://vanishingtwinmusic.bandcamp.com/ | 0:36:48 (Pop-up)

Chime Oblivion | Deathgod | 2025 | Released now!!! Today!!! 2nd Advance track from the forthcoming solo/w/guests collab... From Flood Magazine... "Chime Oblivion Work Through Strong Feelings on New Proto-Punk Jam “Kiss Her or Be Her” /////////// John Dwyer’s new project co-founded by Bow Wow Wow’s David Barbarossa will release their self-titled debut on April 18 via Deathgod. //// It was bound to happen eventually: After two decades of non-stop prolific output under the many guises of his Osees project, John Dwyer seemingly cloned himself to lead a second, parallel existence as the band leader for a revolving set of collaborators within jazz fusion projects like Bent Arcana and Witch Egg and beyond. Having recently released SORCS 80 with his primary band, Dwyer is already moving onto his next full-fledged collaboration, this time enlisting iconic new-wave drummer David Barbarossa of Adam & the Ants and Bow Wow Wow, further padded out by members of Lydia Lunch’s Retrovirus and punk newcomers FKA Smiley, as well as tapping into the Osees and Bent Arcana talent pools. //// Ahead of the release of their self-titled debut album, Chime Oblivion are sharing another new single today that melds the influences of some of today’s most exciting punk outfits with the acts that originally inspired them. “I think it pulls a bunch of pieces from bands that we all loved over the years,” Dwyer confirms of “Kiss Her or Be Her,” a proto-punk rager embracing the bounce of Barbarossa’s percussion as FKA Smiley vocalist HL Nelly does a pretty convincing Sue Tompkins. “Obviously we have David as weapon X to bring in the old-school talent. I think that’s a rare thing these days.” //// Working with Nelly’s lyrics, Dwyer continues on to note how the song was inspired by a mutual friend among the band that Nelly appeared to be “taken with.” “My friend is quite charming, so it’s totally understandable,” Dwyer notes. “I played her the song and she was, I think, really moved. She’s a pretty cool motherfucker, and Nelly recognized that and wrote a really great, playful, busy song about their first meeting. [This] one took a long time to get wrapped up. I would say it was our opus together.” https://johndwyer.bandcamp.com/ | * | 0:46:22 (Pop-up) |

Strutting Rooster
![]() |
Feast | Wonderland / Polydor | 1983 | The Creatures were formed in 1981 as side-project of Siouxsie & The Banshees members Siouxsie Sioux and Budgie (who were married between 1991 and 2007). In 1996 the project turned into their full-time group. 2005 marked the end of the project. (In October 2021, Budgie launched the Curious Creatures podcast with Laurence Tolhurst of which the name is a pun referring to The Cure and The Creatures. It is not directly related to The Creatures.) "Feast is the debut studio album by British duo the Creatures, composed of Siouxsie Sioux and musician Budgie, then-members of the band Siouxsie and the Banshees. It reached No. 17 in the UK Albums Chart and the single "Miss the Girl" peaked at No. 21. With their first album, the band embraced exotica, including "waves crashing on beaches", "found-sound effects from nature" and local Hawaiian chanters. Critic Ned Raggett described it as "a lush, tropical experience". //// Siouxsie and Budgie decided where to record the album by randomly placing a pin on a map of the world; the result was the U.S. state of Hawaii. Several songs are about their experiences in that region, including "Festival of Colours" and "A Strutting Rooster"." | 0:48:42 (Pop-up)

![]() |
Los Angeles | Play It Again Sam | 2023 | Los Angeles is a collaborative studio album by Lol Tolhurst, Budgie, and Jacknife Lee. The album was released by PIAS Recordings on 3 November 2023. Tolhurst and Budgie, the drummers of the Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees, respectively, wrote and composed the album with producer Lee in Los Angeles. It was recorded with guest singers and musicians, such as LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy, U2 guitarist the Edge, Primal Scream vocalist Bobby Gillespie, and Modest Mouse singer Isaac Brock. The album is the solo debut of both Tolhurst and Budgie. //// Tolhurst and Budgie first met when their respective bands toured together in 1979. The two had previously collaborated on the post-punk-centric podcast Curious Creatures starting in 2021. //// The project began life as a trio with Bauhaus drummer Kevin Haskins, with Tolhurst half-jokingly describing the project at that stage as "like the Three Tenors, but with drummers". Work on the album beginning at Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee's home studio along with a singer. Thinking the project sounded too much like their typical output, and not liking the mixing work at the time, they scrapped what they had. It was at that point that Haskins left the project, having to go on tour with Bauhaus, and Tolhurst described the duo as "not desolate, but a little despairing." Tolhurst confided in his neighbor Jacknife Lee, playing the demos for him during a chance meeting at the 2019 Topanga Canyon Blues Festival, where Lee suggested they start over at his home studio in Topanga, California. The group experimented with their usual drums, guitars, and synths, as well as found sounds and an AI voice machine. U2 guitarist the Edge joined during these sessions, playing stuff akin to his work with Jah Wobble and Can's Holger Czukay. //// The album was incomplete when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, leaving the band uncertain what to do with the material they had, briefly considering releasing it as an instrumental album. After LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy offered to sing on the album, it was decided to bring on guest vocalists for the whole record. The guest musicians on the album all wrote lyrics for their respective tracks, except for "Train with No Station" which has lyrics written by Tolhurst and his son Gray. Guests were encouraged to interpret the material given to them, unrestricted outside of the group's general idea of the record's style and themes. Out of those lyrics came the common theme of Los Angeles, from which the album name was chosen." | 0:53:46 (Pop-up)

Kaleidoscope | Polydor | 1980 | Kaleidoscope is the third studio album by British rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees, released on 1 August 1980 by Polydor Records. With the departure of John McKay and Kenny Morris and their replacement by two new musicians, Budgie on drums and John McGeoch [originally of Howard Devoto's Magazine] on guitars... ---- but not on tis track... Siouxsie played the electric guitar on Skin & Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols played the Lead Guitar.] ---- the band changed their musical direction. //// Following the departure of McKay and Morris, the band regrouped and redirected their sound for their third record. Departing from their previous work, the Banshees incorporated synthesizers and drum machines for the first time. They particularly experimented in electronic music on a couple of tracks: the electro-rock minimalism of "Red Light" and the atmospheric, synth-based piece "Lunar Camel". The album also contained what could be described as a ballad, "Desert Kisses". Kaleidoscope marked the debut of guitarist John McGeoch and new drummer Budgie. Siouxsie Sioux saw it "like a new lease of life". The songs had been demoed at Warner Chappell studios with only a bass and a synthesizer played by Siouxsie and Steven Severin. After the 1979 tour, Siouxsie had been ordered to take one month of rest by doctors; she used this time to learn to play guitar and compose music for the first time. //// When they recorded the final track of the album "Skin", Budgie asked co-producer Nigel Gray if he could add a second drum kit, as if "I was playing to myself a ‘call and answer'." | 0:58:55 (Pop-up)

Single | Skep Wax | 2024 | Swansea Sound are an indie pop band from Kent and Swansea, formed in 2020. The group reunites Amelia Fletcher and Hue Williams, who previously sang together in 1990s indie band The Pooh Sticks. They dedicate their songs to "anyone whose life, livelihood or environment has been damaged by self-serving corporate activity." The strange noise at the end of 'Toxic Energy' is a recording of a Tesla Cybertruck accelerating, losing control and exploding as it hits a wall. The band took its name from the name of the local radio station that was being closed down by a corporation so this is a band that fights for what's right! Also...the Prolapse-esque back and forth on this vocal is...delightful. | 1:16:13 (Pop-up)
Pilot Scot Tracy |
So Strange
![]() |
We Cut Loose! | Alternative Tentacles | 2006 | Combine the imagery and decadence of mid-century air travel with the energetic excesses of new wave/punk music, and you come close to the roots of Pilot Scott Tracy. Started by Scott Causey Stanton and Tracy Cox, first as a duo, and later a six-piece, Pilot Scott Tracy emerged from the ashes of The Causey Way in 2001. Their music, described by one critic as “aggressively homo,” is sometimes raw, sometimes pretty, sometimes serious, sometimes silly. Their diverse fan base might best embody the musical trainwreck of early punk and new wave that is Pilot Scott Tracy: It all began when Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo gave Scott and Tracy a personal tour of the Devo headquarters, schooling them on vintage keyboards, equipment, and sounds. PST balances that clean, queer sense of sound with a raucous and dirty rock and roll that has attracted a growing legion of heavy metal fans. The singer from Pantera became a fan at a show in Chicago, and ended up loading out the band’s equipment. The bass player of White Zombie is among PST’s biggest fans. Punk icon Jello Biafra likes PST so much, he not only puts out their music, but schedules his own engagement calendar around PST’s performances. And of course, the legendary Wesley Willis, the band’s dear friend and artistic muse, even wrote a song for them, titled, appropriately, “Pilot Scott Tracy.” In short, if you like music, you’ll like Pilot Scott Tracy. | 1:19:01 (Pop-up)

Berserk | Climax! | 2025 | From their new album out March 7th! Agender have PLENTY to say these days....Agender isn’t making noise; they’re on a mission to destroy everything bland. Leading the charge is Romy Hoffman, the Australian-born author of Agender’s chaos, whose guitar work is so incisive it could cut diamonds, and vocals like a sympathetic drill sergeant barking orders in your face. Bassist Cristy Michel’s bass frequencies are so heavy they could sink a battleship, while drummer Christy Greenwood beats her drums like she’s trying to wake the dead. Synth wizard Sara Rivas is the wildcard, throwing neon lightning bolts all over the place like some kind of disco Gandalf on acid. Hoffman’s pedigree is punk royalty: a former teen guitarist in Ben Lee’s Noise Addict, a trailblazing rapper (as Macromantics), and a DJ spinning L.A.’s queer underground. But Agender is her magnum opus—a project born from sobriety and spite, evolving from a solo outlet in 2011 to this ferocious four-piece. Berserk isn’t just their third album; it’s their manifesto, a “schizo-synth-punk” tantrum against a world where self-care collides with late-stage capitalism and every Instagram scroll feels like a cry for help. Satomi Matsuzaki’s vocals move between sweet and intense, showing the album’s mix of beauty and rebellion. //// The album includes a special feature from Saul Williams on the track “Under Rats”. Deerhoof will also hit the road for a big 2025 tour, starting May 1st in Minneapolis and stopping at Brooklyn’s Pioneer Works on June 28th, plus shows in Canada, the U.K. and Europe. //// It was in February that Deerhoof released their singles “Sparrow Sparrow” and “Overrated Species Anyhow” which will both be featured on the LP. Naturally, they will be the first two songs of the LP. The band also has an album titled, Miracle-Level, which was described as “energetic, experimental and genre-blending.” --- Speaking of playing Toronto, that show looks like a great one with a great bill, including toronto's excellent Luge and NYC's excellently named Troglos.... Released March 21, 2025, Gnod from Salford, UK / White Hills from NYC, NY... Of this song from their BC page... "Wellhang - New version featuring elements recorded around the initial release but not included in those previous mixes."... ---- From "Psychedelic Scene" on March 20 --- "Drop Out III by Gnod and White Hills–Album Review" .... "Fans of the supergroup comprising neo-psych space rockers Gnod and White Hills, rejoice! 15 years after they released their first official transatlantic collaboration, Drop Out II, the two bands return with Drop Out III. They describe Drop Out III as a “director’s cut” of the original, so it’s loaded with remixes and reinterpretations of many tracks from Drop Out II as well as songs that initially were left on the cutting room floor of the recording booth back in 2010. //// You might think that after all this time, they got together only to recycle old material, which many bands do with anniversary releases and remix albums in this “everything old is new again” cultural moment we’ve been stuck in for quite a while. But this triple (!) album doesn’t lazily give in to that trope. Instead, it delivers innovative reinterpretations of older tracks, plus a LOT of new and new-ish material, including a digital-only third LP of tracks from each band, plus a new, expanded version of Drop Out II’s “Per Siempre” (more on this one later). Comparing Drop Out III to its predecessor is like comparing your favorite Dead shows: the songs retain the names, but they’re often completely different jams. //// Before you dive in, make sure you pack something long-lasting if you want to drop out and smile. This triple LP’s 15 tracks run for nearly two-and-a-half hours, so you’re gonna need them! Most songs run around the 10-minute mark, although a couple are much longer and some are very short (by these bands’ measure). //// Don’t be scared off by the length though. Each song takes you on a cinematic journey, building up slowly, never in a rush to get to its destination. Take your time with them, let them settle into your bones. Their artist bio says they “bend the very notions of what rock can do, seemingly suspending our sense of time” and it’s true. These songs don’t feel as long as they are–they’re that entrancing and inviting." ///// Of the supergroup...
