All vinyl and mostly “oldies” - but with an ever-changing interpretation of what that means. Probably a better outlet for me than constantly texting songs to friends.

i know people who know people that lost their homes AND/or businesses.
- also in north carolina, as a result of hurricane helene last year. people lost Everything.
my niece is in la - packed for evacuation for ...weeks? a month?

irma i was out of a home for 8 days, not bad. Ian flooded my apt out (3 ft). but, then i had nothing much to lose (had my laptop on a table, and my clothes on a shelf, w/ my books, so, I survived.
  12:40am
late night clara-tea:

@coelacanthø Ugh it’s so awful and scary. Glad your niece is safe and prepared tho! And yeah obviously the fires were close to home (both figuratively and literally) but there have been so many horrific natural disasters…I volunteered with the Red Cross and one of the Red Cross staffers showed me pics from that hurricane…terrifying!
Avatar 12:43am
northguineahills:

of course now that i left FL for VT, you'd think i'd be safe, but Irene destroyed this area....(and i was in Brooklyn when that hit, but it wasn't so bad where i lived bushwick away from newton creek is well above sea level)
  12:51am
late night clara-tea:

@northguineahills There’s always some sort of natural disaster in whatever part of the country you live in, it feels like! I grew up in the Midwest where we had tornadoes, and I remember once when I was a kid and the sky was green. And here in California, obviously earthquakes and wildfires
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01am
coelacanth∅:

↳ northguineahills @12:39
i remember that.
...i feel fortunate. my biggest loss by an event of nature (unless you want to call thievery "natural") was just some stuff, lost to flooding. mostly sentimental stuff; a few hundred lps that were given to me - nothing i was that attached to; other things i don't even remember, like furniture... legal documents that i never needed...

i got hit by typhoons in japan, but they are built for that (then there was a 6.6 earthquake. but that just broke some windows and knocked some shelves over). oddly enough, i had a tornado take out my parents' fence in FL when i was in hs...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09am
coelacanth∅:

the idea of tornadoes scared the hell out of me when i was little (probably because of the wizard of oz!)
i was Thankful we didn't have them in the northeast.
...and now we do! Woohoo.

I just make my own mixes as my hobby, that's all. I was wondering if that Heartbeat song was appropriate for a disco mix I've curated a dozen years ago. It's just that it was '81; a bit past the era, but the music continued, right?
