My dad was an avid record collector but not a musician and it wasn't something that I was really ever exposed to. I took piano lessons with my first daughter for a bit and my wife's a musician so Im gonna take a stab at guitar and hope it leads me to more!

This is wonderful to hear … as I have been obsessed with this Swedish wonder band ever since I learned of them via Fred Frith’s ‘gravity’ album. I’ve tried to collect as much as i could find (mostly vinyl) but many offshoots on CD as well. Lars Hollmer was Hero! So what is this 1979 product? a 7” single?! It’s during their great edgy transitional period.

They were one of the significant groups in the “Rock-In-Opposition” movement (mid 70s-early 80s). Definitely in the world of progressive, yet very playful with humor. The earliest albums as Samla Mammas Manna (1971-1975) are more prog and still wonderful, yet there was a strong edgier shift with the 1977 double album with a new innovative guitarist. Start with that & beyond. Offshoots are also very worthy: Lars Hollmer solo & groups, Von Zamla, etc etc. Discogs would reveal layers of offshoots etc. did you ever get into any of those R.I.O. (rock in opposition) bands? Henry Cow, Art Bears, Slapp Happy, Stormy Six, Samlas/Zamlas, Univers Zero, Art Zoyd, Etron Fou Leloublanc, Aksak Maboul, etc etc. the Fred Frith “gravity” & “speechless” albums. Ps: there was finally a documentary made on that R.I.O scene: “Romantic Warriors 2” (2012).🕊️

It’s during their great edgy transitional period.

They were one of the significant groups in the “Rock-In-Opposition” movement (mid 70s-early 80s). Definitely in the world of progressive, yet very playful with humor. The earliest albums as Samla Mammas Manna (1971-1975) are more prog and still wonderful, yet there was a strong edgier shift with the 1977 double album with a new innovative guitarist. Start with that & beyond. Offshoots are also very worthy: Lars Hollmer solo & groups, Von Zamla, etc etc. Discogs would reveal layers of offshoots etc. did you ever get into any of those R.I.O. (rock in opposition) bands? Henry Cow, Art Bears, Slapp Happy, Stormy Six, Samlas/Zamlas, Univers Zero, Art Zoyd, Etron Fou Leloublanc, Aksak Maboul, etc etc. the Fred Frith “gravity” & “speechless” albums. Ps: there was finally a documentary made on that R.I.O scene: “Romantic Warriors 2” (2012).🕊️

I enjoyed the Dylan bio, as a lark (yet agree it’s OK). I’m a fan of the Hal Ashby 1976 film “Bound for Glory” (Woody Guthrie bio drama). Has anybody seen that 2025 “becoming Led Zeppelin” docu?
