Jeff Moore:
I really really like it, was blown away especially in the context of what it was doing versus what had ever been on TV until then. So my friends and I had watch parties at my house during the original broadcasts, appointment TV when each episode aired.
And since then, I've remained marinated in Twin-Peaks-related culture, but hadn't been actually watching the episodes again. I was kind of waiting until I could do so again with the proper attention and reverence and mood.
Eventually, lo these many decades later, the whole series came out in gorgeous HD transfers on Blu-Ray. I wanted to experience, basically, a theatrical showing of them – in those lovely HD transfers, on our beautiful pretty-big OLED TV, with the excellent finely-tuned surround sound setup with proper big speakers.
And for that event, I invited some people I know are super into Twin Peaks – Scott Williams and Therese came over to watch.
So I set everything up, we settled onto the couch in front of the TV, I pressed play, that incredible atmospheric music came up, the story started unspooling...
...and Scott JUST WOULDN'T SHUT UP.
He kept chattering at Therese about various Twin Peaks ephemeral trivia he'd picked up over the years of his fandom, and wouldn't – I even think COULDN'T – just sit there silently and let the sounds of the show and voices of the actors do all the speaking, let the carefully crafted visual details on the screen carry us along on the wave of unspooling story and aesthetic appreciation.
So that seriously sucked. And I think Scott thinks my reaction was funny. Har-dee-freakin'-har.
