They WANT you to feel defeated and give in to despair and give up. The protests are an antidote to that defeatism.

Mr. Reynard:

Hi, Jonathan & friends. Here's where I stick my neck out.

Checking in from Salt Lake City. The 50501 rally at the state capitol gave me some hope. The local conservatives (i.e., old school conservatives like Romney rather than the fascists pretending to be conservatives) are as unhappy with Trump & Egon as I am. There's hope for building bridges at this time, I think.

What was cool was to find out about Utah Mormons who interpret their scripture as pointing toward left/socialist solutions. (I'm almost entirely unfamiliar with LDS religion and culture, despite being from Rochester. Big up Carbon Records!)

Consider joining organizations like Braver Angels that are promoting conversations where they are possible. Take the time for self-care (Meditation works for me.) And, of course, get your face out of your Rectangle of Sadness every once in a while.

Hi Jonathan in the future, April 11th. It got worse in the future. But optimism is possibly subversive.
