The truth probably sits in the middle somewhere as in most of these cases. Robbie was better at interviews and storytelling, while Levon was more raw...but I have to say Levon going after Robbie as harshly as he did wasn't a good thing to read and hear since they were very close back in the day and shared some amazing stories. The most underheralded member of The Band for me is Garth Hudson, a real character in every sense (in a good way) and a musician many levels above the norm. I only found out how important and how gifted he really was in the past decade or so when his interviews started showing up online. But he tended to speak in riddles sometimes so it came back to Robbie or Levon being the historians

There's also the subjective nature of storytelling and the stark differences between the two of them. Robbie was the the ostensible leader, the "songsmith" the storyteller, etc., and Levon was in the back powering the whole thing and feeling a little underappreciated. It's inevitable they would have different tales to tell.

It’s a two-tiered justice system, here in the Greatest Country in the World (tm).

If you’re a Wall St Financial Terrorist, or a well-connected politician, or a cold-blooded murderous cop you’re immunized from the so-called “rule of law.”

Everybody else can easily be ensnared into this corrupt justice system that basically exists to control the 99%. But nobody suffers a worse fate than young black and brown males. Unlike stock swindling those numbers don’t lie.

I watched the Dana Carvey Show when it first aired! There was one skit he did playing Bob Dole who was campaigning at the time the show aired, and they would cut in and out of covering Dole's speech, and Carvey made Dole look more and more lost each time they cut back, to the point where Dole had his back to the cameras and was still delivering his speech. For whatever reason that literally had me crying laughing so hard. I need to catch this new doc.

I heard that Joe as a teenager learned how to play both guitar harmony parts from "And Your Bird Can Sing" on a single guitar, and musicians in the area knew him as that kid who can play And Your Bird Can Sing. I also heard that Joe bought cases of Coricidin medicine after learning they were discontinuing putting it in bottles, because Duane Allman used that bottle as a slide and inspired Joe to do the same. And he didn't want to run out of the bottles. Those are mild Walsh stories obviously haha

James Gang Story. I’m a very young engineer at The Record Plant. Having a giant party to celebrate the closing of the original RP, and the opening of the new and soul-less RP. Huge party is called the Last Jam. One of the bands performing is the James Gang, in studio C. I walk in there, they are rocking, and there about four people in there watching. I notice my co-worker watching, sipping on her drink. To me, her name is Cecil. I knew she was a singer of some kind, but very fuzzy on the details at the time. I slide up next Cecil, and ask her if she going to sing with the James Gang. She sheepishly nods her head no. I ask why not? She says she would know what to sing. I said shit, do Stormy Monday. Everybody knows that one. She doesn’t say anything. I have to run out of Studio C for a minute or two. When I come back, Cecil is singing Stormy Monday with the James Gang. I walk right up to her, and she sings her ass off 6 inches from my face. Cecil was Lyn Collins. She was never very nice to me, but she sure was after that. Great, unforgettable night.

↳ Song: "Rockin’ All Over The World" by "John Fogerty"
the "John Fogerty" LP is a gem. Springsteen first picked up on this song to close his dates in Europe in '81. (and to close shows on the final US stop before going overseas, on subsequent tours)

Anybody got movies or shows? I'm a little underwhelmed by the new season of Hacks. It was never really great tbh. I just stumbled across the Holy Modal Rounders doc for free on Youtube for anyone that hasn't seen it. It seems to be a shorter cut than the one Netflix had available 20 years ago but at least you can see it. It disappeared for a long time.

Weren't Hal's modified timbales or something? I think it was how Hal had a company weld the stands together that made them what they were with the descending pitches and everything in a row, but they weren't the actual trademarked Roto-Toms...or were they? I was always confused by that story. But it is Hal's drums on Indian Reservation and all those AM hits.
