When I was young I used to read Jimmy Breslin and Pete Hamill, so my dislike of Trump started pretty early. When I found out about his connection to Roy Cohn my feelings were amplified. Trolls are making coordinated attacks/takedowns with public broadcasting platforms, in particular listener supported radio. Nate The K had a troll/s that attempted to shut down his chat a few weeks ago bc he was playing anti-fascist music. In my area, alt-reich trolls are constantly trying to silence & jam up KPOO and its website(also listener supported). Because they’ve slipped on the messaging war, they can’t control the communication dynamics(bc no one is buying the bullshit) so they’re trying to divide and shut us down. In other words, they are losing, folks.

If the Courts cave on this, i.e. if the legitimate government of California is neutralized and removed by force, then America opens up a portal to hell. Trump represents an ethos of psychopathic murder, and yes he has many cohorts. The streets will burn over this, but it's good that resistance is mobilized because those people are not going to stop until everything that says no to them is exterminated. At which point they'll turn on each other. That's how it goes.

Hey Steve, Eric Clapton was the first guitarist to plus a Les Paul into a Marshall amplifier that changed the sound of the instrument forever. Cream, as "blues rock" band with with jazzy influences and pre-dated The Jeff Beck Group, alone Led Zeppelin. No Les Paul Marshall, no Jimmy Page; no Cream, no Jeff Beck Group, no Led Zeppelin, no Fleetwood Mac.

While Im in a vastly different camp, I get where you'r'e coming from regarding "jumping the shark" as Eric's career has been considered that way by many. His playing in live performance with the Dominos is stellar, the rare tapes going far beyond the live album at the Fillmore (a show I attended, by the way). Taking a songs like "Tell The Truth" and "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad" and taking them out 17 minutes some nights, is filled with virtuoso compositional guitar playing very few have been capable of then or since. It took me some time to accept the Strat, but going through Marhshalls he was many nights was electrifying...

I think the reason some of The Dominos stuff is good is because it is very song oriented...not too much wanking. "I Looked Away" is a good example. I also enjoyed them backing Carl Perkins on The Johnny Cash Show.

Re Eric with the Yardbirds, 1000% agree with you and the author. JEFF was the greatest guitar force they ever had and Clapton is the first to agree. Jimmy, maybe not so much, unless you know better. Great friends, but hugely competive among one another and they with Eric, more than vice versa.

Very song oriented - absolutely, Todd. The best writing of Clapton's career and the model for his musical life as an "American musician" rather than the British player he had been to the point he joined Delaney & Bonnie. Had a several decades "agree to disagree" house policy in place on the merits of Cream with the ex & our shared stereo system.
It was:
"Play Only" when I was not home/within earshot.

We had the same "policy" in place for my enjoyment of most early 70s glam/pop stuff.

By that point, Cream was in the rear view mirror and commercial atrocities of the 1970s such as Journey, Foreigner, and so many others were what I understood the punk reaction to have been about. But the Ramones weren't rebelling against any of that as much as returning rock music to fun and the basics. I don't recall leatered and safety pinned punks hanging out at early Ramones shows at CBGB's and think that got ping ponged from England, sort of like what happened with the Brtiish Invasion taking American rock and roll of the 50s and doing what they did in Liverpool, London, and bringing it back to America. It kind of worked well in each instance!

I very much agree with your perspective...my young music loving ears had no time/tolerance for the overwhelmingly "embellished" & layered productions for the bulk of what was being released/played on FM...but also very much on AM.

Glam...to garagey/NY-style rock...to first wave punk (& "new wave") was a very natural progression to many a young music-lover...& stayed pretty below-the-radar for quite some time. Compared to how things "go viral" in modern times.

Disco of course was the biggest musical movement of the time...& no...not everyone was into it. Although, in retrospect, I can now appreciate a few of the tunes from that genre/period...but not YMCA...for obvious reasons.
