I wonder if everyone would appreciate it if I ruled as to whether each cut is or is not jazz. Of course, if @doctorj shows up, he will do that for us.
(Just kidding... nothing would make us less popular.)

Hello Gary and bopos! Apologies if you've already heard my little song and dance, buuuut... My 24/7 caregiver existence has cranked up even harder, so I'll be checking out of the chats for the time being. I'll still be listening, in stolen moments, in the archive. Thanks again Gary, your selecting has been extra excellent this last year. Or two? Or three? Best wishes everyone, "be cool, but be kind."

Poland has a very robust jazz scene, including some very good free jazz musicians. I think it goes back to Krzysztof Komeda, who became known in the west for his soundtracks (e.g., Rosemary's Baby) and who was essentially a jazz musician.

love the jazz stuff coming out of communist poland, found a volume of polish hard bop that i found in a record shop in omaha for $1

The Voice of America was apparently very much listened to in Poland, and so people became familiar with American jazz before they had a chance to hear it in person.

I saw him once in the 80s and only have a vague memory. I was impressed that the band left the bandstand and marched through the audience. The music was quite diverse, if memory serves.

↳ Song: "Sun of the Cosmos" by "Sun Ra & His Arkestra"
For many years, Sun Ra was the most proficient performer on the synthesizer, which a lot of jazz musicians didn't seem to know what to do with. (This could well be organ, as pot8o says.)

One more book note... I've been reading this for too long a time:

https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/C/bo3684199.html

"Cassette Culture: Popular Music and Technology in North India" by Peter Manuel, published 1993. Filled with deep information, but (warning, Gary) in deeply academic mode. Between that and my exhaustion, I am lucky to get through a couple of pages a night. And if that Peter is 'our' Peter, I will pretend to eat my imaginary hat.
