He was an immigrant from England to the U.S. who couldn’t be accepted by the U.S. Army because of his short stature (5 foot 4), so the family story goes, so he signed up with the Canadian Army to fight for Mother Britain. Although I suspect he enlisted with the CEF because the U.S. didn’t enter the war until later and he wanted to do his part right away.

	10:25am Toothgrinder Tom: My grandfather’s younger brother fought for the Canadian Expeditionary Force in WWI and died in a battle in France. He was an immigrant from England to the U.S. who couldn’t be accepted by the U.S. Army because of his short stature (5 foot 4), so the family story goes, so he signed up with the Canadian Army to fight for Mother Britain. Although I suspect he enlisted with the CEF because the U.S. didn’t enter the war until later and he wanted to do his part right away.
