Hello Doug and drummerati. On this worst of all Independence Days to date, when those who claim to represent Real America are taking food from the hungry and medicine from the ill to pay for concentration camps, secret police, and a little icing on the cake of the already wealthy, I do not know what to do other than be here with you. Somehow, chanting "stand up, fight back" does not feel adequate to the moment.

What I noticed on my drive: The Trump shit was everywhere (no surprise) – semi-truck trailers parked on hilltops with “TRUMP” written in huge red letters on the side. Billboards in Texas that read “Abolish the income tax! Destroy communism and socialism!” I remember the “US Out of UN” billboards when I was a kid, but what’s changed is the amount of Jesus. Huge crosses on hilltops; endless Christian billboards and nothing but dollar-a-holler preachers and sappy gospel music on the left of the dial. The community radio station in St. Louis went under and will now be yet another Jeebus station. What a weird country this is. I felt like a complete alien most of the time, which never happened before.

I am poking around looking at theories of the origin of "hobo": could be "homeless boy" or "homeward bound"

Hello Doug and all. Day off started with finding broken knob on front door. Texted landlord, he can’t get anyone to come fix, I do my best to reinstall it myself.
