Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from July 4, 2025 Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Ironically, I just posed on the I Hate Bruce Springsteen page on Facebook a clip of Meat Loaf singing Two Out of Three Ain't Bad. According to Todd Rundgren, Meat Loaf's "Bat Out of Hell" was the anti-Springsteen, even though Roy Bittan and Max Weinberg from the E Street Band were on the record.

I've wondered about the relative small amount of Springsteen hate I've ever encountered, because I was sure more was out there, and because the size and endurance of his success would be enough to fuel hostility. Can you give a few bullet points on Reasons for Bruce Hate? I'm not distinctly a fan, but certainly not a hater or dismisser.

On the Vietnam trip, a biking couple from California brought their clipless pedals, which the guides put on their VBT bikes, but that was the closest I've seen (I've done these tours in the US, Vermont, where you brought your own bike, also Canada, though that was a loooooong time ago).

Forty nine years ago today, when payphones were the standard means of communication, two of my roommates and I drove to drove from Santa Cruz to San Francisco on the rumor that The Dead were going to do a free concert in Golden Gate Park. When he got there, a bunch of hapless people were walking in circles in the fog. We went to the aquarium then back to 'Cruz. Nothing else to do but go to the beach and get stoned.
