Artist Track Album Label Year Format Comments New
Kool DJ EQ  Death of hip-hop   Favoriting Return of the DJ Vol. 1 V/A  BOMB Hip-Hop  1995  CD
Sun Ra  snippets of various tracks off vinyl version   Favoriting Media Dreams      Vinyl  snippets of various tracks off vinyl version mixed in backwards and sidewayz,,,,
Blackalicious  Rhythm Sticks   Favoriting     2005    Brand new single from forthcoming album from NorCali's finest sons: Chief Xcel and Gift of Gab, aka Blackalicious from the long revered Quannum/Solesides crew  *
The Fall  Totally Wired   Favoriting       Vinyl  Mark E Smith is God or least he was God or at least a God who turned his back on his live audiences but managed to crank out such classics as this which two decades plus later still hold strong..."I'm totally wiraaard...Cant U see?"
Buzzcocks  What do I get?   Favoriting       Vinyl  from the Peel sessions 12" 3 song 45RPM
No Empathy  Ben Weasel Don't Like It   Favoriting       Vinyl  Just played short (several seconds) but funny-as-fuck spoken word intro off this track
Dillinger  Cocaine in my brain   Favoriting       CD  "A knife, a fork, a bottle and a cork. That's how we spell New York" - those lyrics for some reason recently got stuck in my head so I had to dig up this reggae classic ('79 I believe was release) out of the FMU library and play it...especially since - when recently -with that chorus stuck in my brain... I would start singing it to my friends (read: subjecting) - only to find none of them knew the damn song....So it was play it and make them learn it or make new friends...and I dont have time for new friends...only new music!
C Rayz Waltz  Blackout   Favoriting Year of the Beast    2005    While I don't think the new album is as strong as this particular track, "Blackout" with its irrestible chantalong chorus ("we're black and we wanna be white" and of course "we're white and we wanna be black") is both at once fun and very socially observant of this hip-hop era in which we dwell
Los Bravos  Black is black   Favoriting         a classic but its still good...right?
Only Ones  Another Girl, Another Planet   Favoriting         sure its a "college hit parade" staple...but fuck it, I love it....only regret is that I didnt have time to dig up the Neurotic Arseholes' "In Love" to follow it up with...since it has same vibe

Camper Van Beethoven  Where the hell is Bill?   Favoriting
Basehead  Better Days   Favoriting         if these guys came out today they would be bigger than........(FILL IN THE BLANK)...too bad their best work is curse-laden and non radio playable....songs like Ode to my Fave Beer
Minutemen  Jesus and Tequila   Favoriting Double Nickles on the Dime        sure its a classic....but thats coz its so good....how good?....if I was on that desert island...this, along with A Tribe Called Quest's first or second album, would be in my Top Five Disks
Cat Power  Free (remix)   Favoriting         Skratch Pisstolz remix of Cat Power's loved song
Baldhead Slick 2/Mex  I Win You Lose   Favoriting     2005    Guru in disguise?....jeyeah......BTW 2Mex is one of LA's most underrated hip-hop acts....NOTE to self....play 2Mex on next weeks show....  *
LCD Soundsystem  Losing my edge   Favoriting         sure it was a hit when it came out on 12" two years ago or so....and garnered repeated play when it was featured on the more recent double CD (which is pretty lame except for this one and the Daft Punk at my house song)...but dammit....our mainman in LCD manages to sum up the history of popular music in one song better than anyone I have ever heard

Z-Trip/Freestylers  Check the Skills   Favoriting Tektonics compilation  OM      the melding of DJs (of the hip-hop scratch nature) with electronic acts...put out by San Fran's OM label under the name "Tektonics - overall a so-so album....so dont go wasting your money!
Lee Scratch Perry  Party Time   Favoriting       Vinyl  Lee Scratch Perry is GOD....its true!.....and this 12" helps prove it....albeit only "scratches" the surface.....that was a joke....but even now...seconds after I type it ...it sounds trite...which in turn makes it funny again!...made you half-smile!
Ultravox  Hiroshima Mon Amour   Favoriting         which came first? the movie or the song? in pop culture the song is what turns people onto the movie that inspiires the song....dems the rules of pop culture....dude
Big Black  Kerosene   Favoriting         I am partial to this song and the album it comes form (inc. Jordan Minnesota track which is equally profound and unnerving in its delivery) for several reasons...first off I bought when it first came out...and second I interviewed Big Black back in those heady late eighties right before they called it quits (they told me they would be pompus assholes but they were really nice).....and I went to see one of their final shows later that same night (I Beam in San Francisco) and they literally gave me goosebumps....Fucking A!....Staring at the walls....nuthin to do
The Mice  Not Proud of the USA   Favoriting         when was this released? 2005? it could have been.....the presidents may have changed but the song remains the same....Goddammit!
Immortal Technique  Bin Laden   Favoriting     2005  CD  "Bin Laden didnt blow up the projects" - this has to be the best political hip-hop song of the year so far.....Harlem's finest is a fuckin prophet in our time.....give the man respect and support...and go out and buy everything he has released to date...Revolutionary music indeed!  *
