Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Artist Track Album Label Year Format Comments

Wisconsin Winter Wonderland Weather Report

Excuse of the Week
The Seeds  Pushin' Too Hard   Favoriting 24 Original Happening Hits  Columbia  1966  LP  How could a song be much better than this?

To Dottie Kelly ... Wherever You Are
Duke Baxter  Everybody Knows Matilda   Favoriting   VMC  1969  45  Found this in Kentucky at a rummage sale. From an LP of the same name. #21 in Canada - August 1969

Arnie's Lounge and Shipwreck Bar
Arnie Aka-Nui and the Islanders  You'll Never Find (Another Love Like Mine)   Favoriting An Evening At Arnie's Lounge  Arnell Music  70's  LP  Florida is a great place to find obscure vinyl of lounge entertainers which was pressed in profundity back in the day for the tourists who flocked to the beaches. This Arnie album is now regularly found on "tiki" websites. Priceless cover.

Memories of Local Rock Bands in Iowa circa '76
Locust  Hold on to America/ You Should Have Just cried   Favoriting   Magic Records  1976  45  Iowa band that was very popular regionally in the mid-70's. they changed their name to "Hawks" and did 2 records for Columbia in 80-81. This is from an album called "Playgue."
Eddie Fischer  Dungaree Doll   Favoriting   RCA Victor  1956  45  With the Hugo Winterhalter Orchestra. I love this song. It swings hard. Must have been influenced by Rock Around The Clock I'm guessing. Eddie is all right.

The Great Hits of Today at Half the Cost!!!
The Surfsiders  Help Me Rhonda   Favoriting The Beach Boys Songbook  Design  60's  LP  If this album were any better it would be awful but, because it's so bad ... it's wonderful!

A Bowl Of Cherries
Rudy Vallee  Spoonerisms (Edit)   Favoriting The Funny Side Of Rudy Vallee  Jubilee  1964  LP  The great crooner of the 30's is actually really funny on this LP.

The Citizens Band (CB Radio) Music Fad of the Late 70's
Cledus Maggard and the Citizen's Band  Mercy Day   Favoriting The White Knight  Mercury  1976  LP  This is a really funny lowbrow LP that captures the cheap fun that was the CB craze in the mid-late 70's. Crazy redneck good-natured truckin' humor.
Andy Andrews  Are You Lonesome Tonight   Favoriting Calls 'Em Wild!  Blue Star  ?  LP  A great square dance record pressed on delicious red vinyl.
JoAnne Worley  Holiday For Strings   Favoriting Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In  Epic  1968  LP  A show ahead of it's time.
Seraffyn  The Owl and the Pussycat   Favoriting Of Love, Of War, Of Many Things  Columbia  1964  LP  This Harvard grad actually went out wandering around as a professional troubadour. Good album. Rennaisance festival lover's dream LP.
Jack Palance  The Meanerst Guy that Ever Lived   Favoriting Palance  Warner Bros.  1970  LP  This may in fact have teetered over the edge of campy into bad territory. He wrote this too.
Gilbert Mack, Don Elliot, Jimmy Carroll  Super Snooper   Favoriting Quick Draw McGraw  Golden Records  early 60's  LP  Great LP of cartoon music. Crazy harpsicord solo. Or is it a chamberlain?
Modern Sound  Revolution   Favoriting 12 Top Hits  Modern Sound  ?  LP  The band actually sounds pretty good on this, but that singer. It had to be the producers son or something.
Ray Anthony and his Orchestra  Hokey Pokey   Favoriting Dance Craze  Capitol  1954  EP  This song sparked a huge dance craze in the mid-50's. Backside!
Five Americans  Western Union   Favoriting 24 Original Happening Hits  Columbia  1965  LP  Formed as The Mutineers at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in '62. I'm thinking that's where Dennis Rodman went to college, and if this is true, then 6 of my heroes went to school there!
Hope you enjoyed this show. I know there are those of you who are disappointed when I don't do shows with interviews and sound edits and all that. It bothers me too as that is my favorite type of program to create for you. I have been pretty slammed at my day job though and will be for a couple of more weeks. Bear with me. I really do appreciate your listening. Remember to pledge during marathon in a few weeks. I'll need your support and so will FMU. The straightniks are really putting the screws to public stations these days. Don't let WFMU fall by the wayside! PS. I'd love to hear from you! Please e-mail me dusty@wfmu.org or call the DUSTY SHOW ANSWERING MACHINE and leave a wacky message I can play on the show. 201.521.1375 Until next time take care and always remember.
