Nomo is a supertight Afrobeat-inspired but wide-ranging 8-piece that came together at sweaty all-night house parties in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In addition to your usual percussion, guitars, keyboards, horns etc, the band features homemade instruments created by bandleader Elliot Bergman with fellow Michigander Warren Defever. Defever's band His Name is Alive shares several members with Nomo, and he produced the band's scorching new cd New Tones (on Ubiquity).

The band tours regularly and will be showcasing at this year’s WOMEX world music conference, held October 25-29 in Sevilla, Spain.

Nomo hits us with live versions from this cd as well as their self-titled 2004 debut disc on Fred Thomas's Ypsilanti Records.
