Mexico Now / Ernesto Villa-Lobos
Hear this show now:
Pop-up player!
Ernesto Villa-Lobos is an award-winning classical violinist. He also has deep
interest in the music of his native Veracruz, Mexico. His group
Bamba New York
explores traditional Jarocho music. "Jarocho" describes the people and culture of the southern coastal plain of Veracruz, who for more than two centuries have shaped a distinctive regional music.
Ernesto and Bamba New York are playing at Joe's Pub on Friday Sept. 1 as part of the multi-disciplinary Celebrate Mexico Now festival (encompassing architecture, cuisine, dance, film, music, theatre, and visual art), which runs Sept 1-17 at various venues around NYC.
Alyssa Alpine is Festival Coordinator of Celebrate Mexico Now and she’ll give us an overview of the festival.
