5-31-07: PANEL DISCUSSION: BURNING NEW YORK- EXPOSING THE SUBCULTURE
OF GRAFFITI (Chelsea Art Museum, NY, NY)
Thursday, May 31st from 6-8 pm. Panel discussion and slide show with
graffiti artists EWOK, COPE2 and WEST(FC). Moderated by James and
Karla Murray, authors of Burning New York (Gingko Press 2006). This
panel will discuss the subculture of graffiti in New York, an art
movement that is largely undocumented and often misunderstood.
Graffiti techniques, forms, and styles will be examined so that the
public can begin to understand its complexity and underlying
messages. Its continued influences on the arts and media will be
discussed and insight offered on graffiti art's documentation and its
future. Question and answers and book signing to follow. $6 museum
donation requested/$3 students/16 and under free

The pics - all taken by photo-journalists Jim & Karla Murray on a photo expedition I recently accompanied them on in the fine state of New Jersey. All of the pics above were taken at this one famous (to graf artists) buliding in Long Branch NJ and included art by this show's studio guest DEMER.
