A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

I'm Troubled:

I'm troubled, I'm troubled
I'm troubled in mind
If trouble don't kill me
Lord I'll live a long time

Courting is pleasure
And parting is grief
But a false hearted lover
Is worse than a thief

For a thief will just rob you
And take what you crave
But a false hearted lover
Will lead you to the grave

I'm troubled, I'm troubled
I'm troubled in mind
If trouble don't kill me
Lord I'll live a long time

And the grave will decay you
And turn you to dust
Not one girl in a hundred
That a poor boy can trust

They'll hug and kiss you
And tell you more lies
Than the cross ties on a railroad
Or the stars in the sky

I'm troubled, I'm troubled
I'm troubled in mind
If trouble don't kill me
Lord I'll live a long time

I'm going to Georgia
I'm going to Rome
I'm going to Georgia
Gonna make it my home

I'm gonna build me a cabin
On the mountain so high
So the world bird and the turtle dove
Will hear my sad cry

I'm troubled, I'm troubled
I'm troubled in mind
If trouble don't kill me
Lord I'll live a long time

Patrick! Hey man! I was just thinking about you 'cause I met another person with your same first and last name. How's Buffalo? Send me a proper e-mail sometime.

seanh:

this new animal collective release is a pleasant departure from their now familiar spazz folk, no? It's more palatable, and songlike, especially in comparison to Sung Tongs. It was a hard swallow the first time I gave it a listen, but I'm really digging it now. tanks for playing it!!!1

  10:28am
holland oats:

animal collective/beach boys connection? more of a simon & garfunkel connection imho! then again, i think the yeah yeah yeahs sound like billy idol...
  10:28am
jeferey:

That Animal Collective cut also makes the XTC connection clearer.
  10:28am
pat:

right on Trouble! Screw the NRA and the Bush Admin!
  10:33am
pat:

yeah, it's good but M.I.A. can come up with some pretty wicked stuff without building the entire song on some one else's...but that gets us into a whole diff argument..I just think there are lines that shouldn't be crossed sometimes. shouldn't mess w/ Straight to Hell. There's something holy about it. Anybody see Strummer sing that w/ the Pogues? My friend did--said it gave him goose bumps..
  10:33am
Jamesie:

Jerry Garcia lyrics qualify as longwinded Pynchonesque verse? Interesting
  2:44pm
Vic Perry:

I think the Animal Collective song here - very exciting song, too! - is actually called "For Reverend Green."

bytheby: Jerry Garcia didn't write "I'm Troubled"; I've heard two or three versions of that including one by the Blue Sky Boys (who were neither deadheads nor a band who named themselves after a well-known natural soda). There's also an old spiritual with a lyrical variation. Old old song, in other words.
