Listener comments!

  9:20am mike cooper:

Hi there - nice show as usual - do you by chance have a contact for cooper-moore? I think I know where there is some money waiting for him!!! keeping on rocking in the free world - :-)))
  9:23am Doug:

Good morning (afternoon to some) Brother Cooper! I do have a contact for Cooper-Moore. E-mail me and I will send you the contact fellow by return email.
  9:23am Listener Dave from NH:

This Hatfield & McCoy track seems to be conspicuously missing from the recent "People Take Warning" 3-CD set I picked up at the record fair.
Also, does anyone know where there's some money waiting for me too?
  9:29am Parq:

Crime drama on GDS -- let's see those "Law & Order" guys top *this*!
  9:33am Bob:

More descriptive novelties!
  10:23am Wes:

Good morning Doug, and a happy Friday to all.
  10:23am north guinea hills:

speaking of cooper-moore, do you have room to play some thing from his box set? my friend, matt, did some ill shit w/ him. thanks as always.
  10:50am Neil:

Wow, that Beirut track was great. What a voice.
  10:50am Doug:

North Guinea, d'ya mean that wonderful wooden box set of 7" singles? That collection is a thing of beauty. I don't have it with me, but I'd surely work something from it into an upcoming show.
  11:02am jeanine:

You read my mind! I loved Jacques Brel so much that I wikipedia'd him and found that his stuff had been covered by Beirut, among other people... and just as I was thinking about how I'd love to hear some Zach Condon, it came on. Excellent show today!
  11:02am north guinea hills:

yeah, i love that 7" box. my friend showed it to me and it made me spill a little drool.
  11:04am Wes:

Yes, Beirut is quite good. I'm going to have to pick up both albums soon.
  11:05am kk:

I love this talk over music!
  11:07am Andrew in Toronto:

The Trevor Giulliani song was very nice. It has the same sophisticated vibe, smart lyrics thing as Laura Veirs (who you turned us on to a couple of years ago).
  11:12am Andrew:

This Moussa Doumbia is killer and strangely familiar. Is it possible this is on some comp I have kicking around?
  11:16am Listener Dave from NH:

It's on Doug's "It's A James, James World" 2007 premium. I was wondering the same thing until I remembered "oh yeah, I've got that in my car."
  11:18am Paul Sherratt:

Killer indeed, Andrew !
Talking of killers - The Louvin Brothers' version of "I Don't Believe You Met My Baby" is a very fine thing too.
  11:20am mark:

This is what radio - especially WFMU - should be! Hot, yet unsung, music, an excellent mix of genres, and snappy, intelligent talk. What more could one ask for? Please give lessons in radio cool to your D.J. colleagues.
  11:21am g:

Moussa Doumbia is also on the "Love is a Real Thing" comp (the Luaka Bop comp Doug mentioned), unless it's some other comp I'm thinking of . . .
  11:27am kk:

@mark
YES! This show is always my fave, but totally out of the stratosphere today. Go, Doug, go.
  11:28am Listener Dave from NH:

Wow. This "Disco Africa" track is *bananas*. That organ line's gonna be stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
  11:30am Andrew:

Thank God for Al Gore and his intranet (and poster g), the David Byrne African rock comp...which is godly. "Keleya" is unhinged in the best way, I am very excited to hear the Louvin Bros track you speak of...some of my favorite "country" music ever.

I concur with Mark, WFMU trumps any and all sonic output stations.
  11:31am Doug:

Wow, Mark, that's the first time I've ever been referred to as "snappy." (And intelligent is a new one, too.)

Hey G, you are right. "Keleya" is on "Love's a Real Thing," though it's the shorter version (but still killer). I put the track on my marathon premium last year before discovering the longer version. I could've made a last-minute switch, but I didn't want to drop any other tune, so I went with the short one.
  11:31am north guinea hills:

a friend of mine found that disco africa record on vinyl last week and payed a handsome penny for. super dope indeed!

weird, i've never heard of it before, and now i've heard 2wice w/in 10 days
  11:34am Listener Dave from NH:

If you like the Louvin Brothers, Charlie Louvin just recently put out a solo album on Tompkins Square (I got it at the fair) and it's a pretty gorgeous little album.
  11:38am Parq:

Dang! I had to go out for 20 minutes or so, and judging from the comments, I missed the set of the century. Sigh.
  11:41am Matt:

Parq- thank goodness for archives!
  11:45am Parq:

Said it before, and sayin' it again. The trouble with listening to the 'chives is that it necessitates missing what's going out over the live feed. What can I say, I'm greedy.
  11:50am north guinea hills:

take a deep breath parq, there will always be another set of the century soon here on wfmu :)
  11:51am Paul Sherratt:

Note to the DJ - The Louvins' version of that song is on CD2 of that glorious Bear Family box set, Close Harmony
  11:56am Doug:

Paul, I'm pretty darn sure I've got that Bear Family collection!
  3:12pm Wes:

By the way, Doug...clever title for today's show. I just now got the reference.
  4:09pm Paul Sherratt:

As a token gesture towards global harmony and the soft toy industry here's the Myspace for that lovely Okiri record label of Paris, France.

However the energy induced by these recordings may add to global warming ...
